A non-profit ,multi –cultural, and multi – ethnic umbrella community empowerment organization serving the Washington, DC

metropolitan area, national, and international community. Our emphasis is around health and technology using mobile units, multi –lingual media campaign and creating public-private partnerships to execute corporate projects.

}  1999 -2000 – The March of Dimes awarded the city the first pre-natal and dental mobile unit in the country . This health initiative campaign reached well over 20,000 women in a ten years existence.

Historical achievements accomplished with mobile unit and media campaign:

Ø  First bi-lingual media campaign in DC Ø  5 languages are spoken on the mobile unit : Spanish , French, Amharic

Vietnamese , Chinese ( Mandarin ) . Ø  First major African American and Latino / Hispanic partnership in a major

health campaign Ø  Partners and funders were all assembled through a public-private partnership

model. Ø  Mobile unit and health campaign model becomes the March of Dimes most

successful health initiative in the country.

2004 - Bridging the Cultural Divide in Healthcare Setting }  The Assembly of Petworth and the Mary’s Center for Maternal

Childcare participated in a national research project featuring cultural competence in the health field“ Cultural Broker ”.

}  The Assembly of Petworth was the only “ grassroots non-profit “ organization to participated in this national’s initiative .

}  The Assembly of Petworth / Mary’s Center relationship and collaboration changed the scope of Georgetown University ‘s Cultural Competence Center funded idea on “Cultural Broker”.

Ø  Relationship between the African American and Latino / Hispanic community allowed the March of Dimes and others to leverage funders and sustained the health initiative.

2005 - Implemented the 1st Men's Health Initiative “ Prostate

Cancer Media Campaign” with W*USA TV9 with Hospitals Universities and Cancer Centers in MD/DC/Northern, Virginia region . The project was funded by Safeway Inc and the Consumer Health Foundation . The first media campaign ever funded by the Consumer Health Foundation.

Approximately 800 to 1,000 men were screened. 2007- Councilmember David Catania awarded Howard University

Cancer Center a Prostate Cancer Medical Mobile Health Unit.

2008 -Diabetes Media Campaign featuring Howard University

Hospital Diabetes Treatment Center and coverage by WUSA TV9 ( Gannett )

Approximately over 500 screened

2009 – The first Veteran’s Day Media Campaign : Veteran’s Administration Hospital/W*USA TV 9 /National Association of Black Veterans.

2010 – Mentored Founder and CEO Mamiah Karmo of the Tigerlily Foundation.

She co-wrote the Early Act Bill [ HR 1740 ] along with Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Shultz – Women with breast cancer under age 40.

2011- DC Colon Cancer Screening and Educational Awareness

Campaign - Howard University Cancer Center , Georgetown Lombardi Cancer Center, and DC Colon Cancer Alliances funded by a grant from the DC Cancer Consortium provided free colonoscopy to the under served population in Washington DC. Approximately over 350 people were screened.

2011 -2012-HHS and CDC National Influenza Vaccination

Disparities Partnership Campaign. The Assembly of Petworth served as the CDC Grass root Campaign lead agency with Walgreen as a local /national vaccination partner in Washington DC area.

DC region finished second in the country receiving flu

vaccinations during 2011& 2012 flu season.

}  2012 -2013 -Community- Academic partnership between Brookland Manor Apts Section 8 Housing Complex [ Ward 5 ], The Community Services Foundation and Howard University Hospital OB/YN & Howard University Health Science Division . * Developing the city’s first school-based health center model in a public housing setting.

}  2013-2014 Community – Academic partnership

establishing the city’s first Health & Allied Services: Emergency Medical Basic [ EMT-B] Cadet Program. * This will be the first program of it kind developed for the School System and as a workforce development program .

}  2013 – 2014- development of a regional Patient-Centered Oral Health Electronic Record and Dental Examination Program & Campaign featuring MySmileGuideU - a Oral health literacy and assessment electronic record progam .

Quality of Life Promote physical activity, health and health foods.

}  Regional Health Communication Campaign “Community Benefit Service Areas” [ CBSA ] defined a geographic or target populations that will serve as the hospitals or partner’s priority for future community benefit programming that is culturally and linguistically relevance.

}  Common Priorities Identifying health disparities that resonate most with the

community / population and educational and preventive activities that are unique to all the Hospitals in the partners service area.
