Background Information ChemGes has a Database of ca. 17,000 Raw Materials (RMs)

These are taken from official lists and major data compilations(i.e. legislative lists, Merck Index)

The insertion of new RMs takes only a matter ofminutes they are then ready for use in formulations, permanently.

ChemGes also facilitates the use ofpreparations as RMswithin

preparations, by simply generating a formulation as per usual(see Power Presentation on the generation of preparations).

Steps for Creating a new Raw Material:

    1. Set up the Database Entry Enter either a CAS numberor ask ChemGes to assign anInternal number

    Data Entry

    2. Fill in any available information:

The more database fields that are filled in, the more information ChemGes has for use in calculations

for the classification of preparations in which the raw material is used.

Information must come from trusted sources, such as the supplier/manufacturer or your own data,

By clicking into (or choosing via the fieldField Number), the various database fields, these can be

opened for entry of classification information or substance data.

    Below depicted are the

    definitions of the markings

which can be assigned to your

    substance definitions andsynonyms.

Translations of definitions can be entered by pressing F1. (If the

description files have been created via Maintenance Programs

Program adjustments Creation of empty description files.)

This screen facilitates the input of the DSD classification

from EU Directive 67/548/EC (widely applied in the US

    as well) and associated data.

    - Hazard Symbols are filled in automatically, as R-phrases are

    chosen

    - Only activate theAutomatic calculation from GHSif you are

certain that there will not be any problems resulting from

classification discrepancies between the DSD and the GHS.

    - If only a GHS classification is entered for your

substance, this item is automatically activated,

leading to a calculated DSD classification.

    - Extended S-phrases (followed by a letter), are options for

the automatic output in S-phrases which are incomplete in

the legislation.- If the physical data and the R-phrases are filled in, then, by

pressing , the S-phrases can be calculated

    automatically.

    A. The DSD classification

R- and S-Phrases can be chosen by number or by text.

    B. The GHS classification: UN GHS, CLP (EU), OSHA HCS (US)

    Activate the Classification. Grey

fields indicate Classes/Categoriesthat are not present in the specific

    legislation (UN, EU, US)

Here you can choose the P-Phrases, grouped into the

appropriate situations. Phrases can be selected in the

overview screen by using the right mouse button, thus

using continuous selection. Stop this selection byselecting with the left mouse button.

Additional options are for the entry of Health

    and Physical Hazard limits.

    - Here you can enter the transport

    classification manually, based on your

data, or ask ChemGes to make a

calculation (we suggest verification).- Empty fields do not indicate that a

substance is not a hazardous good.

    - In order to indicate that a good is not

hazardous, one must enter a hyphen(-) in

    the fieldClass.

    - In theName field, it is possible to enterthe substance as a Hazard Trigger if it is to

be considered a Hazard Trigger in

    preparations.

    - If a substance is used in a preparation and

this substance does not have a transport

    classification, ChemGes will calculate such

    a classification based on a worst-case

    scenario, for the substance.

Additional database pages can be accessed by either pressing F10 or pressing 1 to 9 to enter specific

    database pages.

These are for the entry of substance specific information, beyond the classification.

ChemGes uses some of this data, in addition to the classification data, in order to calculate the classification and

physical data of any preparation in which this raw material is contained.

This information also aids in the output of information in an MSDS.

    E. Other Database Data

Two pages of Physical Data provide

    ample space for physical details.

TLVsmust be manually input with every new substance entry. It is also possible to enter Group TLVS and Codes for

    Biological Limit Values.

Additional TLVs(Insert) andSubstance Listings (F10 - Insert) can be entered for both new substance and default

substances. Such data must be maintained manually.

A heading must be assigned to new substance lists, in order for these to be output. This can be done by creating a

new Heading for the substance list (Maintenance Program - Material Safety Data Sheets - Headings) and then

allocating the heading to the substance list when creating the substance list.

For all substances which are bydefault

part of the ChemGes database, TLVs are

automatically updated with each majorUpdate, unless the information has been

locked to avoid such a change. Substance

listings are also updated automatically but

    cannot be locked.

TLVs are locked in the maintenance

These are the fields for the entry of any country-specific data.

This data is output on the MSDS as needed.

Please note, this is where theRegistration Numberas per REACH

requirement, can be input for output in the MSDS (as long as the

output of the registration number is activated in theMaintenance ofCountries)

As we cannot know the REACH registration number assigned to

you for this substance, we cannot input this information

    automatically

Toxicological values are added by pressingInsert

Additional test typesandspeciesmust be set up in Maintenance Programs

Program Adjustments Definitions for the toxicology.

For the species and the Comment, the option exists to change to alternate

    languages and input the translations.

In addition, it is possible to allocate target organs on which the substance is

    detrimental.

    3. Use the raw material within a preparation

(search by CAS Number, Name, Product Code or Pseudo-CAS Number):

By selecting a raw material and

pressing the below depictedbutton, it is possible to directly

    enter theMaintenance of Raw

    Materials for the specific raw

    material.

Keep in mind that changes done to raw materials which are contained in a preparation,

the classification of this preparation needs to be updated manually, unless you have theautomatic update for classifications set. (Maintenance Programs Program Adjustments
