MESSAGE
After independance, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru headed the
Governance of India. His life stood for equality, justice and peace. During the pre-
independance period the people joined the freedom struggle on a large scale and
they dedicated themselves to the process of reconstruction of India at his call.
Nehru believed that the first step towards reconstruction of any society is
education.
Inspired by the thought of our Late Prime Minister Pt. Jawaharlal
Nehru, the people of Nerparsopant, came forword and established Nehru
Education Society and subsequently college naming after him to cater to the
needs of Higher Education of this region and the students of socially and
economically backward sections of the society in particular. It will march to
continue in future with the same view striving for excellence which is the need of
time.

PREFACE
We are of the opinion that, the present system of Higher
Education is in the crises, so excellence and quality in Higher Education is quite
vital. As the competition is the part and partial of the globalisation and in order to
survive in this dog-eat-dog world, education of hi-tech is a necessity. But
considering the local scenario, we endeavour to tread in the direction of quality
assurance of higher education. Simultaneously, we are conscious of our
commitments towards the overall development of the common students belonging
to this rural area.

INTRODUCTION
After deep consideration the need of education for the students of Nerparsopant and its
surrounding villages, Nehru Education Society accepted the challenge and laid down the
foundation stone of Nehru Arts and Commerce College in 1965 on a land of 8 acres very near
to the locality.
At the beginning, all in all 65 students were admitted to the college. 30 students out of
65 in the pre-university Arts and 25 in pre-university Commerce and 10 students in the
B.Com.I were admitted. Five teachers (including Principal) were appointed for the sacred job of
teaching and imparting knowledge, one clerk and one peon were appointed for the
administrative activities. In this regard the Nehru Education Society tried successfully for the
education of this rural, social and economically backward area. The society has a commitment
that it will remain bound for the purpose of education. At present the college has Arts,
Commerce and Science faculties upto degree level.
In 1975 college adopted 10+2 pattern of education as per the direction of State Govt.
and opened Junior college wing. In between 1975 to 1990 college introduced some new
subjects at graduate level ie. Sociology, English Literature and Marathi Literature as the
optional subjects. Urdu Language and Urdu Literature subjects were introduced for the
students of Muslim Community and Urdu medium sections in Junior College also. The college
has its own Buildings, Playground, Central Library and Subject Laboratories. In this way
college has been developing itself gradually and qualitatively, including sports & cultural
activities.
From the academic year 2003-2004 to 2007-08 the Government of Maharashtra and
Amravati University has granted the permission to start Science faculty with Computer Science
and optional subjects Home Economics, Music and Geography in the faculty of Arts. In
response to our proposal, the UGC approved two Minor Research Projects,
