These mailing items are transported usingpre-established means, which make theoperation faster and easier to control.

transfers and is operational through amodern and safe IT system. The servicemay be used both by individuals and legalentities, for unlimited lei amounts.

This service is provided to clients whowant to send and receive money fromthe countries the Romanian Post has

bilateral contracts with. At the end of2004, the Romanian Post had bilateralcontracts with the following countries,for international money orders: Algeria,Armenia, Belgium, Brazil, CzechRepublic, China, Cyprus, Egypt, Finland,France, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Jordan,Madagascar, Moldova, Poland, Ukraine(only from Romania to Ukraine) Swedenand Yugoslavia.

Although the international trend fornancial services is to give up traditionalservices, as the development of electronicservices gathers speed, the internationalmoney order service will be expanded in2005 by bilateral contracts with the postaladministrations of South Africa, Belarus,Kazakhstan, Iran, Lebanon, where suchIT products are not implemented.

As far as the international activities of the Romanian Post areconcerned, 2004 was a crucial year. This illustrates the Post’scommitment to become more actively involved in the actionsof various international organizations it is a member of and toget in line with European Union standards in the eld. The mostimportant activities developed in 2004 include:- quality monitoring tests (conducted by the Universal Postal

Union and International Postal Corporation), whose mainobjective was to improve service quality, as well as theinstallation of AMQM (Automatic Measurement Quality Mail)equipments in the Romanian Post networks;- EU initiatives (ACTIN project – coordinated by PostEurop,

Agreement II, Leonardo Da Vinci Program – EPO EuropeanPostman);- organization of the 23rd UPU Congress

(September – October 2004);- the Romanian Post was represented in the bodies and

committees of the UPU, especially as, during 2004 – 2008, thePost will chair the Board of Directors of the Universal PostalUnion.

In 2004, the Romanian Post was appointed a provider ofuniversal services, by the National Regulatory Board forCommunications. This decision imposes norms on the provisionof universal services and the publishing of the complianceresults.

In order to expand quality monitoring nationally in 2005,using the Unex tests of I.P.C., The Romanian Post benetedfrom FAQS for the second stage of the AMQM equipmentinstallation.In 2003, the AMQM equipments were installed in the Otopenipostal processing center and in the Bucharest Regional TransitCenter, and in 2004 the equipments were also installed inthe Regional Transit Centers in Timisoara, Iasi and Brasov.Therefore, service quality could be monitored on a larger scope.
