Introduction• Hello! • I am a student in year 11 at Sirius Academy and the subject leader for the Computer
Science curriculum. • Being a subject leader at Sirius Academy allows me to take an active role in promoting
Computer Science. For example, I have being involved with many events such as Year 6 open evenings, Year 8 option evening Computer Science clubs.
• I have helped planning into these events, by putting together Rapiro, Raspberry Pi’s and our robotic arms.
• Our projects are usually themed. We have done Star Trek, and Mario Gaming events. This gives students and parents a good look into what Computer Science is about here at Sirius Academy.
• When we had our year 8 option evening, our aim was to interest the kids and parents into modern day computing and GCSE Computer Science, lots of questions where asked by parents and students.
• For the past 3 years I have took part in these events, and I will miss this opportunity when I leave.

• The day I discovered Rapiro was when it was on Miss Gledhill’s desk. I asked her what it was.
• She explained to me that she had only just received it and she was looking for somebody who wanted to build and experiment with it during the summer holidays.
• And that it is a robot that can be controlled by a Raspberry Pi. This excited me!
Summer Time, building time!

• So, during the build we had issues with the servos being on the wrong angle which caused several parts like the arms to not function, however I then realised this could be altered in the program, Arduino.
• Also, then we had issues if we did the screws to tight, this caused it not to work because the plastic parts were to stiff.

Sharing Success with theComputer Science Staff
Computer Science staff meeting, I shared what I did over the summer holidays by giving a demo of the robot.
