PrincipleThe principle behind RAPID’Salmonella relies on the demonstration of two enzymatic activities. Salmonella spp. takes the form of typical, readily identifi ed magenta colonies (detection of C8 esterase). Counter selection is used to reveal other bacteria with a different color.

Salmonella Latex allows the detection of Salmonella groups B to E and G, and Salmonella Confi rm Latex allows the detection of Salmonella spp.

After enrichment, isolate presumptive Salmonella

colonies on a solid medium

Deposit 1 free falling drop of latex onto a circle of an agglutination card and add

1 colony of presumptive Salmonella

Mix reagents thoroughly Rock the slide in a circular motion for 30 seconds

and observe for agglutination

No agglutination = negative result

Agglutination = positive result
