SESSION DETAILS SESSION 1

A financial health check for your established practice: where to from here?

BOQ Specialists – Amanda Nicholls, Finance SpecialistAs an established practice owner, you’ve worked hard to grow your practice into a flourishing business. So, what’s next? At BOQ Specialist, we understand that an established practice still requires work “on the practice”, not just “in the practice”. With this in mind, we will provide you with insights and tips on how to plan for this next phase of growth or consolidation and to help set the future direction of your practice. Discussion topics will include:

→ Security of tenure and property funding (rent, buy, SMSF) → Funding fit out to refresh, or transform your practice → Funding equipment and IT systems for the best patient and practice outcomes → Working capital options → Practice goodwill and succession planning → Case studies from our GP clients.

SESSION 2 Discussing Low vision and blindness with your patients-Post clinical services

Vision Australia – Nabil Jacob (BAppSc-Orthoptics)(Syd), MCommHlth(Syd), MIP (ACHSM)When is the right time to start referring patients to vision loss support services? Should this wait until the end of medical treatment? Life-changing support is available from diagnosis, but when is the right time to refer? And who is responsible for referring - the ophthalmologist, orthoptist, optometrist or GP, or should the patient self-refer? This interactive session will look at the continuum of care for vision loss. It will touch on who should refer, triggers for referral, how to refer, and patient case studies. It will also cover the full range of support and services available to patients, of all ages, experiencing vision loss. Many may surprise you. Including how advances in technology are dramatically improving the lives of people living with vision loss. It is important that ophthalmologists understand the support and services available so they can better inform and refer their patients. Vision Australia is the leading national provider of blindness and low vision services supporting people to live the life they choose.

SESSION 3 Data Breach and Privacy Law Reform

AVANT – Dr Richard Wilson (MBBS DObstRCOG FRACGP FACRRM)This presentation will review the privacy obligations facing ophthalmologists and Ophthalmology practices and explore the changes due to the legislation with regards to data breach. General privacy responsibilities outlined by the Australian Privacy Principles have been in practice for some time but there remain some issues with evolving technology changing the way we communicate with patients. Objectives:1. Outline privacy issues with patient communication – email, SMS and websites2. Discuss the Privacy Act, recent data breach amendments and the implication for medical practices.3. Discuss the elements of a detailed privacy breach response plan

SESSION 4 How to future proof your business and get more out of your practice
