Parents, Students and Friends,

The 2013 Graduation is now a cherished memory. We were truly blessed to facilitate the learning, growth, and development of such a gifted group of students. It was the Class of 2013 that saw St. Johns County Schools continue as number one throughout their high school years!

The Creekside Class of 2013 continues the pathway of excellence, earning nearly five million in scholarships. I am humbled by the reverence in which they displayed at graduation. We were enthused with the overflow audience that came to celebrate with their graduates. I trust that graduation was enriching and rewarding for all.

FCAT Reports have arrived. Parents you may choose to send a stamped, self-addressed envelope or pick-up your students report at school.

Creekside is in preparation for continued student growth. We are busy interviewing teaching candidates and making other preparations for the start of the new school year. Students return on Monday, August 19th. The schedule for student orientation is included within this issue of The Shield.

In closing, we trust that your pathway be made straight and that your destination be made golden.

Let’s be a blessing to others,

Sincerely,

RandyJ. Randy JohnsonPrincipal

Learning by Doing: Academy Students Spend their

Summer as Internsby Alicia Pressel

Students involved in the Academies at Creekside High School are spending their summers working alongside local Business Partners to develop skills of various trades. Students within the Academy of Environmental and Urban Planning and the Academy of Emerging Technology can be seen throughout St. Johns County busy at work. The interview process for these Academy Internships began in early spring, when students prepared their resumes and learned important interviewing skills. Internship opportunities with local business partners are very competitive, and these students have worked hard to reach their goals of receiving a summer internship. Within the Academy of Environmental and Urban Planning, three students have been actively working with summer camps at the Guana Tolomato Matanzas National Estuarine Research Reserve. Three other students have been busy working with St. Johns County Public Works and Utilities Departments. The students working with St. Johns County Public Works also spent a few days with Mrs. Pressel on the Creekside Outdoor Classroom Project, helping her map important features in a wetland habitat located on the school grounds. While it takes a disciplined student to excel at balancing summertime fun with internship responsibilities, students in the Academy Internship program always are eager to share their experiences with their peers at the start of the new school year!
