Randy Heysek at the Longboat Key Conference

Florida oncologist Dr. Randy Heysek recently hosted the Sixth Annual Longboat Key Conference, inviting 25 physicians from the area to discuss topics related to cancer care and treatment. Dr. Heysek currently serves as Medical Director and founder of the Central Florida Cancer Institute, and he has lectured and taught extensively on oncological topics.

At the conference, Dr. Randy Heysek presented a lecture on the importance of post-surgical radiation for certain types of prostate cancers. He explained the causal relationship between radiation after surgery and cancer remission and continued to speak on recent advances in radiation treatment. These advances allow a man undergoing prostate cancer treatment to undergo a full course of treatment with minimal to no side effects.

Supplementary to his lecture, Dr. Randy Heysek discussed the industry-leading treatment systems in place at Central Florida Cancer Institute's recently built HOPE Center. These systems, image guided radiotherapy treatment (IGRT) and intensity modulated radiotherapy (IMRT), combined with stereotactic techniques that direct radiation beams, allow for more precise targeting of tumors and minimal damage to surrounding tissue.
