Mud and floods! Hope this finds you all high and dry and able to work horses again. I cannot believe it is February already, and Scottsdale is just around the corner. Safe travel and a successful show to everyone who is attending. Our club's March show is coming up and will be here before we know it. As usual, we will be needing class SPONSORS, volunteers, and exhibitors. Remember, for every class you sponsor you are entered into a drawing for a great prize. It would be wonderful if all of our members could sponsor one class or come out and volunteer for one day. Come to the show and see some old friends, make some new ones, and enjoy our beautiful Arabian horses! To everyone who is concerned about the EHV -1 outbreak at the Los Angeles Equestrian Center here is the latest update from the California Department of Food and Agriculture (CDFA): EHM Incident at Los Angeles Equestrian Center: January 27, 2017: The last horse remaining in isolation has met the negative test requirements and has been released from quarantine isolation. All quarantines on LAEC have been released. EHM Incident in Los Angeles County: January 31, 2017: No new cases. The last affected horse at this facility has met the negative test requirements, and this facility has been released from quarantine. We no longer have any equine facilities in Los Angeles County and the State of California under quarantine for EHM. Recommendations for Participants at Equine Events: CDFA Animal Health Officials are continually monitoring for EHV-1 cases. CDFA reminds horse owners traveling with horses to participate in an equine event, that there is always disease risk when horses of unknown health status are comingled for a show or competition. CDFA strongly recommends that horse owners practice proper biosecurity when attending an equine event. Compliance with basic biosecurity practices is an important factor in reducing risk of exposure to all contagious equine diseases. Basic biosecurity measures to follow to decrease potential disease spread at equine events include: Limit horse-to- horse contact Limit horse-to- human-to-horse contact Avoid use of communal water sources Avoid sharing of equipment unless thoroughly cleaned and disinfected between uses. Monitor your horse for clinical signs of disease and report any temperature over 102°F to a veterinarian Hope to see all of you at the March show at LAEC on March 23rd!! Sincerely, Debbie President’s Message By Debbie Moss February 2017

A DEAR FRIEND: Barbara J. DuBois 1929-2017 The morning of February 18th we lost a dear friend and longtime member of RCAHA. Barb had her 88th birthday in January while in the hospital. She returned home about a week ago and passed away from end-stage COPD and pulmonary hypertension. She is now free of pain and reunited with all the dogs and horses that passed before her she cared so deeply about. Our thoughts are with Jenny at this difficult time. Per Barb's wishes, there will be no service. We will work on a more thorough history for future.
