Just seems like yesterday that I was writing a letter for the 2015 catalogue. A lot of change comes and goes in thecattle industry in a year but the one thing that doesn’t change is the cattle are still sold by the pound so the heavierthe better.

Annual Sale

It's hard to believe this will be our 32nd bull sale; where does the

time go. This year I will be turning the BIG "60". As I reflect on the past

year, I am the most proud of the many young ranchers who started out

as customers and quickly became long time friends. I am also very for-

tunate to have two great partners; the Johnstones from Conquest and

of course Bill and Don Dillabaugh of the famous Double AA herd of

which a large amount of my cow herd originate from.

On the personal side, my daughters and their families are busy with

their lives. My 3 son-in-laws continue to do well in the oil sector. Also

step daughter Taylor finished her Nursing degree and is working in

Medicine Hat. With 14 grandchildren it's hard to keep up. My son

Ryan and family, and my nephew Lindsay continue to be a huge part

of the farm.

While EPD numbers are a tool to be used, we tend to forget that

the bulls we produce need to cover sections of land to get a cow

bred.

We again bring you a powerful set of bulls that are bred to put on

extra pounds on your cows. We continue to use Canadian genetics

that are bred to excel in our environment.

I would like to welcome everyone to the 32nd Annual Rancher’s Choice Bull Sale.

I believe it’s a huge accomplishment for the people involved in running this long, and

it speaks volumes of the kind of quality of both the bulls and service it provides. With

that being said i would like to thank Uncle Kim for the opportunity once again, and I

couldn’t be more proud to be a small part of it. We sure do appreciate it.

We are offering 7 bulls this year and believe the quality is very deep. Even though

the choices are limited, I believe you will be able to find what you are looking for. As

we continue to expand, we are utilizing A.I. and embryo transfer extensively. We

spend hours on end researching pedigrees and searching for bulls that will provide

customers with a herdsire that will deliver profits.

Our philosophy from the beginning has been quality over quantity, and we went out and tried to

select the best females we could for our foundation. These females are easy fleshing, good uddered,

and have the ability to wean a strong calf each and every year. We have had a very mild winter this year,

but all of the bulls show tremendous hair coats. Another trait important to us is disposition. With our

kids ranging from 2 years old to our grandfather at 85 working around the ranch, we can’t afford to

have a cow without a gentle demeanor. As you walk through the pens, you will notice the bulls have

inherited this as well. If there are any questions, please feel free to call anytime. We look forward to meeting more new

Riverfront Franchise 509C has certainly earned the spot as our lead off bull andhas been one to watch since birth. He started out with a modest 78 lb. birthweightbut possessed extra bone and stoutness early on. He has grown into a verycomplete bull, and is long, thick and hairy. His sire is a bull we sampled and isknown for his performance. We have 2 daughters in the replacement pen thatare some of our very best. The dam is an extremely deep and broody femalewith a tidy udder, and was among the high sellers of Hamilton’s 2013 sale. HisEPDs compete with the top of the breed for BW, WW, YW and Milk.

To describe this bull in one word would be “rugged”. If you are looking for someextra frame, length and shear pounds, look to 502C. Along with incredible hair,he gets around on a good set of feet and legs. The sire, Sitz Upward 307R hasmade a name for himself for providing just plain good and solid cattle. We have3 sons available and all 3 possess great hair, growth, and solid structure. Thisbull started out a little heavier than his brothers, but was born unassisted fromhis 2nd calving dam. The dam hales from the famous Tibbie cow family atHamilton Farms, and is among the favourites around the ranch.

504C was a strong calf all summer standing beside his moderate, heavy milkingdam. The last Upward son to sell, he is a bit more refined than the 2 previous,with a desirable birthweight and a strong actual weaning weight. His calves willbe born easily and will continue to grow. Here is a heifer’s first calf that may get overshadowed, but shouldn’t.
