No more trying to look up what Ola means in you smart phone or what Ate logo means. Now you can speak to them as if they were your own mother. Prostitutes work in the Copacabana neighborhood of Rio de Janei-ro, Brazil. So men start working on your zumba skills. Asthecountrybracesforafloodofsoc-cer fans, according to Reuters, Brazilian pros-titutes are signing up for free English classes being offered by a prostitute advocacy group in Belo Horizonte, one of the cities slated to host the World Cup matches. Belo Horizonte's 62,000-seat Mineirao Stadium will host three matches of the Confederations Cup and six games of the World Cup. “This is important for the dignity of the work, the women need to be able to negotiate a fair price and defend themselves,” Cida Vieira, president of the Minas Gerais state Associa-tion of Prostitutes, told Reuters. Here’s a fun fact: prostitution is legal in Brazil. As with past World Cups, they’re expecting a booming in their business during all the soccer tourna-

"And for the same reasons we are also thinking of offering free French and Italian classes," said Vieira by telephone. HOMECOMING

Faced with many controversial issues to-day, the importance of these instances varies on thetimeperiodandwhatseemsmoresignificantto the most important people. For this reason, many incidents and events that people should be well aware of often go unrecognized or fade into the abyss after little time in the spotlight. One issue that was seemingly imperative at one point in time has recently been shoved under the rug in the minds of many Americans. This matter is something that cannot simply go un-recognized; this matter is cyberbullying. Despite the fact that many have been ignorant towards the subject of cyberbullying it has currently been highlighted here at Mont-wood. Every Wednesday is what many Rams call “Olweus day” and this week cyberbully-ing was the topic of the anti-bullying program which is active once a week during 3rd period at school. There was a short video presentation on the issue and it discussed just one form of cyber-bullying but as discussions began more aspects of it were brought to light. After the video, the assignment was to write about how cyberbullying affects the

school and how the school can improve the safety and security of the students when it comes to this occurrence. One person said, “At our school we are doing something that really helps our students out. We watch these videos and they make people know the kind of things that happen to those who are bullied.” This shows how the Olweus program has impacted the community here at Montwood in a positive way. It leads some students to question what our

school would be like without the program. Some of the responses from the stu-dents went beyond the issue of cyberbullying at our school and went into depth about bullying as a whole here at Montwood. The responses were for the most part positive and stated that if there is bullying at school, no one ever sees it or has heard of it and the environment here makes them feel safe. What struck a chord in everyone’s thoughts though was one comment made by one person. They said, “Something that will never completely go away is some sort of cruelty between teenagers or any humans.” The whole class seemed to agree with this and it made them even further question what our school would be like without Olweus. Afterfurtherreflectiononthecommentand on the program, the students came to an agreement when they realized that even if we cannot get rid of cruelty completely, at least our school is making the effort to try. Administra-tion at Montwood do all that they can to provide a safe and healthy environment for the students and despite the questioning of the rules or of the Olweus program, at the end of the day the students know it is all for the best.

Fall has been known as the entertain-ment season, more concerts and events come up in or around our city than any other time of year.Nowwecandefinitelylookforwardtomore than just going to the movies or playing video games with our friends. All types of en-tertainment for every individual will be coming up so be on the lookout for acts and events that interest you. One band that recently came to the Las Cruces Pan American Center was the Black Keys. They attracted a crowd of 6,700 people of all ages before heading out on the road to play at the Austin City Limits Festival. During the concert they played 19 songs from their album “Brothers” as well as their latest album “El Camino.” Another concert that is sparking an

interest in country lovers all across the El Paso/Las Cruces area is George Strait’s farewell tour that hits the Pan American Center on April 6. He previously performed at this venue back in 2011andissuretomakehisfinalshowhere,which will be his 12th at the Pan Am Center to date, one to remember. Country fanatics are also excited for his opening act, memorable country star Martina McBride. The EDM scene has been sweeping across the country and across our city. This fall we will be seeing many DJs in our area such as Laidback Luke on Friday, November 2 and Ar-min Van Buuren on Saturday, October 13. Nero will also be performing at Electronic Voodoo on October 26 along with Killsonik. Be sure to get your tickets soon because these shows are expected to sell out fast. Moving out of the concert aspect of entertainment we also have many festivals that come up this fall. One of them is Chalk the

Block which takes place downtown in October. This festival features chalk art from various art-ists all across the city. The artists use this time to showcase their talents as well as compete to have the best drawing in different categories. Vendors also crowd the downtown area sell-ing food and other things. Despite the festivals name there is much more to it than just chalking theblock.Concerts,firedancers,andactivitieswill keep you entertained as you look at all of the chalk art. So as you can see, this time of year brings more than just trick or treating and Thanksgiving. With all these events coming up saving a little extra cash can really come in handy if you and your friends want to have a good time doing something out of the ordinary like going to a concert or festival; And with great acts and events like these there is no way you can pass them up.

Thenightfinallycamewhereev-eryone was desperately waiting to see who would be winning the Battle of the District. El Dorado’s crowd was none stop yelling throughout the whole game. The whole game there was tension throughout thewholegame.Asthefirstquarterbegan,Montwood was down by three touchdowns. ThiswasmostdefinitelypushingtheRamsunderpressurehavingadifficulttimepushing themselves to their limits. As for El Dorado, they had two touchdowns, but unfortunately for them, they missed both of them. Once the third quarter came, all of Montwood and El Dorado’s crowd had lost complete hope for Montwood’s victory. Montwood’s players looked as if they were crushed both mentally and physically. They had no capability of pushing through any

longer. Every last energy that they had left in them seemed to have completely van-ished as they came to their last few minutes of the game. Suddenly, the fourth quarter came, El Dorado’s crowd went from being loud and going crazy, to quiet and not sure what was going to happen next. During the fourth quarter, Montwood intercepted El Dorado’s hopes and dreams of winning the game. Although everyone, including Montwood fans felt that El Do-rado was going to win, Montwood brought home another victory. Montwood ended up defeating El Dorado, 35-34. Montwoods crowd went completely wild and were in complete awe as the Rams came back within the last nerve wrecking minutes that were left in the last quarter. Montwood was able to add an additional victory against the El Dorado Aztecs to their triumph and glory..

The week coming back from intersession is the most exciting week of the year. People like to show off how much school spirit they have and they go all out on their spirit days. The seniors are the ones who es-pecially look forward to this week. Since it’s their last homecoming week they go all out on every day.

The underclassmen got different dress up days than the seniors. Monday was Rock of Ages, Tuesday was Psychedelic neon day, Wednesday was love sta-tus day, Thursday was throwback day, and Friday was spirit day. For seniors Monday was either risky busi-

ness or outta this world day, Tuesday was twin day or toga day, Wednesday was pink or Hawaiian day Thurs-day was cowboy day and Friday was black tie affair day. A lot of the students participated in these dress up days.

At the end of the week we had our homecoming game. This year we played Socorro High School and ended with a winning score of 42-7. Finally, Satur-day night we had our homecoming dance here in our school commons. A lot of people showed up and had a really good time. For some it was their last homecom-ingdanceandforothersitwastherefirst,butitwasdefinitelyanighttoremember.
