Design Philosophy
Ralph Erskine is an influential architect in the 20th century . He has a strong belief “in the de-velopmentofagoodandequalsocietyandhehas,withoutcompromises,pledgedandfoughtfortheneedforsocialandpoliticalawarenessinthebuiltenvironment.”
Hisbuildingsareastrongreminderofthisbelief.Hisdesignphilosophyused“theclimateandthecontexttogetherwiththesocialandhumanisticneedsofpeople.Hewasconcernedthattheexpressionofbuildingsshouldengagethegeneralpublicinterest,generateasenseofown-ershipandappealtogenuineparticipation.”
Now the Tovatt firm uses the teachings andideasofErskinetodesigntheirproj-ectstoday.Theyfocusontheneedsofthepeopleaswellaconcernforenviron-mentalissues.Tovattfocusesoncom-munityplanningmoreintheirpractice.
