INTRODUCTION

Oil seeds and pulses are sick segment of Indianagriculture.

Till 1965, India was an exporter, but later imports

of oil became necessary to meet the surgingdemand.

Area under oilseeds crops is 200.7 lakh ha.(14.04%). In Rajasthan 25.2 lakh ha. Is under

oilseeds(18.45%) Production is about 155 tonnes.

PURPOSE OF STUDY

To analyse the functioning and to assess theperformance of OSCS.

To document the extension services provided as a

part of CDS scheme and to assess the operationalbottlenecks

To assess the comparative quantitative impact ofCDS scheme on productivity

To evaluate the organisational support provided byTilam Sangh to the OSCS

STRENGTHS

The area and production of soyabean has shownconsistent increase over years

The formation of technology mission on oilseeds

has made a dramatic change The area under oilseeds crops has increased to

14.04% of the net crop area.

Have impact on the farming pattern

WEAKNESS

The area and production of soyabean has shownconsistent increase over years but the productionhas not been able to meet the increase.

It is difficult for marginal and poor farmers tobecome member as the meage land holding theyposses are usually used for staple food.

The supply of fertilisers and pesticides was not

paid enough attention.

Huge number of buyers and consumers

Population increase

Rise in average income or purchasing power

income elasticity of oil purchase

Change in cropping pattern

Rising trend of soya bean consistently with a

shallow dip in some years

Import of the oil to meet the surging demand

Large scale import leading to drain of valuableforeign exchange

Procurement not properly timed

Procurement quota fixed by OSCS is less

Use of low quality seeds

Lack of adequacy of funds

SUGGESTIONS

Use of decentralised power in order to reduce theprocedural delays and efficient working takes place

Easy accessibility should be taken into

consideration By providing sufficient funds in advance the

financial disbursement can be avoided

Proper marketing strategies should have been

developed Proper monitoring on the inputs should be done to

avoid usage of poor quality of products

RECOMMENDATIONS

Provide storage facility

Use of good quality seeds adequately

Procurement quantity need to be increased

Improve supply chain

Proper financial planning facility should beprovided

Providing with the proper loan facility

Proper selection of transportation contractor

Proper monitoring should be done
