2/9
Hello, my name is Raj and i am running for the position of Vice President
of Finance for NRHH. Let me start off with a little bit about myself, I am
a 4th year student at SJSU planning to graduate with a degree in
Computer Science BS. I have been involved with housing since i first
transferred her to SJSU about two years ago. I started of by being a partof the CVB (Campus Village Building) Hall Government as a Floor
Representative, Fall 2011. Then the following semester, Spring 2012, I
applied to be a member of the National Residence Hall Honorary (NRHH)
and was inducted into the organization. Being involved with NRHH and
Hall Government further encouraged me to apply for the Resident Advisor
position in CVB. And as an RA i have realized that sufficient funding is
necessary to host any program. Working towards building community in
housing and organizing educational programs is main my objective. To do
this, the right amount of funding and smooth transaction between the
Finance committee is necessary. As a Vice President of Finance of NRHH,
I feel confident that i can make this happen.

When I first experienced housing, as a floor representative I was able to
learn about the how programs with an educational model were applied in
a residential community. Also being a part of the Hall Government I was
required to attend the weekly hall government meetings, where as a
group we came up with monthly programs and hosted them. We also
discussed and approved money requests. This way i got to experience on
how money requests are made and how they should be written, in order
to be approved. In addition working along with the Treasurer of the CVB
Hall Government, I got insight into how the budget was allocated for the
semester. I was able to pick up many more details about the budgeting
aspects, for example on how you make a money request if dont have the
receipts (you turn in a memo).

I have been involved in NRHH since
Spring 2012; i started off as an active
member. A year later when there wasopening for the VP of Finance, i
decided to join the Eboard. As a part of
NRHH i got the opportunity to
recognize my peers, who put in effort
and time to build a strong housing
community. It gives me satisfaction
that i can do this by being a part of the
Eboard and a member of NRHH. And
also being part of this organization i get
a chance to work on the foundations of NRHH 1. Leadership 2.
Academics 3. Community Service 4. Recognition.
Holding the position of VP of Finance currently has given me an in depth
insight into the organization and what is required out of NRHH. Being a
part of the Eboard has helped me become a much better leader. It has
helped understand the role of leader and, given me an opportunity to
work with an amazing group of hardworking leaders. Along with the
Eboard, i have experienced the number of programs and events that
required of NRHH per semester. I have been the VP of Finance for the
past couple of months and it has given me a fair idea of how the NRHH
budget works. As a VP of Finance, I have made sure the NRHH budget
remains updated and also at every Chapterand Eboard meetings I have
kept the members of the NRHH informed about the final budget. I have

Think Tank
To whom it may concern,
It is with great enthusiasm that I write this letter of recommendation for Raj Powar
in his running for the position of Vice President of Finance for the National Residence
Hall Honorary Makoto Ushihara Chapter. I have known Raj since we were both in
Campus Village B's Hall Government for 2011-2012. He was a floor representative of
the 9th floor, and one of the most dedicated and hard working. His perseverance, and
determination in both his academics and participation in Hall government lead to his
nomination of Student of the Month for December 2011 that won on a national level.
I witnessed his dedication to his work in Hall Government and through his
professional development he became a Resident Advisor for Campus Village B for the
2012-2013 year.
Raj, as a first year RA, has done an outstanding job in his building of Campus Village
B. He has accomplished excellent and thoughtful programming to the residents of
University Housing Services. In Spring of 2013, Raj was appointed to become the
National Residence Hall Honorary's Vice President of Finance after the position was
vacated. He has done an excellent job coming mid year to the Makoto Ushihara
Chapter and accomplished many things. He quickly submitted budget proposals as
the beginning of the semester for the Makoto Ushihara Chapter. Raj also took
initiative in ordering membership pins, and Outstanding Service Pins for the Sparta
Awards.
In addition, Raj has actively participated in the collaboration with the Residence Hall
Association. He fully supported the collaboration of the two organization's biggest
program of the Spring 2013 semester. Their program, Family Feud: College Edition,
was a huge hit amongst resident participants and the audience. He ensures that all
things are accounted for in the success of his organization.
Raj is an excellent member of University Housing Services of SJSU and all of his
participation in it's organization's show why he is an outstanding leader. This is why
I fully support Raj Powar in his bid for the National Residence Hall Honorary Vice
President of Finance for the 2013-2014 academic year.
Please contact me if you have any questions or need further elaboration.
Sincerely,
Eric LaviVice President of Administration
