Critical Thinking and History of
Interiors
We’ve all seen this on our
student’s computers during
studio…. Turns out it’s a great
tool for interior design students
and practitioners alike!
That’s Pinteresting… Why?
Its…
– Relevant
– Curatorial
– Commenting and Sharing
– Accessible
– Enduring
What’s Really Going On Here
• Critical Thinking (Nosich, G.M.)
– SEE-I
• State
• Elaborate
• Evaluate (Exemplify)
• Illustrate
• Control, Writing, and Decision Making
• Active Learning = Lasting impact
The Assignment…. varies
• But the assignment always requires:
– Read the chapter in the text book
– Have at least ten images to curate and pin
– Write content in the comments area that is in
your own words
Now the variable part…
• Select highlighted terms from the textbook to define and illustrate– Furniture Forms or Types
– Construction and Finish techniques
– Architectural Elements
– Decorative Elements

What does that look like?
Student Feedback
