This is Annie (with the white paws) and Stormy (showing you his belly).

Annie, Rainy’s mother, is a Brown Mackerel Tabby with white. She has a small white blaze on her nose (probably from an injury), as well as white on her chin, chest, belly, and paws.

Stormy, Rainy’s brother, is a Brown Mackerel Tabby.

Remember that “Brown Tabbies” like Stormy and Annie are genetically black (B-).

I don’t have a picture of Rainy’s dad, but he was solid black with a white locket.

Here we have Joey. Joey is a black “tuxedo” cat. He has white that starts on his lower lip and extends down his chin, throat, and chest in an upside-down V-shape. The white then splits into two bands that extend under his front legs. All four paws are white, but not his legs are black; it’s like he is wearing gloves or mittens. I would love to have him tested for the recently discovered “white gloving gene”. He had a sister that was a brown mackerel tabby with white chest, belly, and white gloves/mittens.

And here’s Alex Tangs! He’s an Orange Spotted Tabby (no white). Spotted Tabbies are, genetically speaking, mackerel tabbies, but it is believed that a yet-undiscovered modifier gene results in “broken” stripes. Alex had two other brothers, both of which looked EXACTLY like him!

Alex Tangs is an orange spotted tabby (no white). The Orange Marking Gene is both epistatic, sex-linked, and co-dominant, which makes genotyping cats with orange markings one of favorite choices for tests/quizzes (hint, hint)! What is the genotype of Alex’s Color Gene? What is his Orange Marking Gene? What about his Agouti Gene? Can we determine his Tabby Gene?

Is this cat a male or a female? What is this cat’s color gene? Color Density Gene? Agouti Gene? Tabby Gene? Orange Marking Gene?
