Adaptations of Rainforest Animals

Some animals have adapted to eating a specific plant or animal that other do not eat. For example, parrots and toucans eat nuts, and have big strong beaks to crack open the tough shells of Brazil nuts.

Leafcutter ants climb tall trees and cut small pieces of leaves which they carry back to their nest. The ants bury the leaf pieces, and the combination of the leaves and the ants' saliva encourages the growth of a fungus, which is the only food these ants eat.

More AdaptationsCamouflage- some animals, like the chameleon, use color to blend into their surroundings. This lets them hide from enemies.

Scare Predators – Some animals have body features or marking that frighten enemies. The frilled lizard displays a brightly colored flap of skin that makes it look larger.

Warn predators with colors – Some poisonous animals, like the poison dart frog, warn enemies of their danger with their bright colors.
