RAINFOREST ECOSYSTEM

Page 2: Rainforest ecosystem

ABIOTIC COMPONENTS – RAINFALL/WATER

• Water/ Rainfall -> Directed by sunlight -> Chief Component in Climate -> Influenced by its equatorial location -> Hot and Wet

• Amount of Rainfall -> Determines biodiversity, growth and appearance. -> Distinct Characteristics

• Humidity is greater beneath the canopy -> Transpiration

• Rainfall -> 250 cm per year.

• Uniqueness of Rainforest -> Its precipitation comes from its own evaporation as opposed to others (their evaporation will have to be carried in far away areas.)

ABIOTIC COMPONENTS – RAINFALL/WATER

• Only a small amount of water reaches the forest floor-> Leaves act as shields.

• Average Temp is 18 deg C.

TEMPERATURE

• Temperature range in tropical rainforest is between 25 to 35 degrees Celsius

• This high temperature range is explained by the closeness of the rainforest to the equator. Since it gets the most sunlight in comparison to other rainforests because of its location, it normally gets high temperature.

• This allows faster growth on most organisms since they don’t need to use energy to conserve heat. They can spend their energy on feeding and reproduction.

• Decomposition happens at a faster rate because most decomposers are active in high temperature.
