Our Metro/Transit Stations Team Transit is not simply a transportation mode; it is a community-building tool. Transport projects are one of the most mathematical typologies among other architectural projects. The majority of success lies in the efficient logistics of people in a precise and controlled fashion, creating unique, comfortable, safe and orderly environments for travelers.

Years of experience in the design of rail, road, air and sea transport facilities support SDT position at the forefront of this sector. In our continuation to expand on our portfolio, we strive to deliver innovative approaches in this sector.

Our team has global expertise in designing air, rail, road and sea transport stations projects, either as a standalone projects or within an alliance.

Effective transport design relies on proactive and critical analysis, sustainable solutions and the capacity to integrate mixed-use retail and commercial spaces within multimodal rail, road and air interchanges.

SDT helps transportation projects in planning, designing and managing the construction of all forms of transit, rail stations, and bus interchanges. We combine our expertise in engineering design and construction-phase services with strategic consulting, land use planning, and program management to provide clients with comprehensive support from inception through operations.

SDT International in collaboration with Fast Consortium were awarded to work for the Riyadh Metro Line 6 which follows a half-ring starting at Airport Road, passing by Eastern Ring Road exit 8 and ending at Prince Saad Ibn Abdulrahman Al Awal Road.

It runs mostly elevated (Viaduct) except in some areas where it is underground (Cut & Cover).

The length of the line is approximately 21 km and it features 8 stations 6 elevated and 2 underground (3 of them are transfer stations with other lines).

The line design is a combination of many patterns including architectural design, structural design, stability studies, personnel comfort studies, traffic diversion plans, utility diversion plans, safety measures and many other requirements to fulfill the need and security of the project.

In addition to line 6, SDT International was also awarded in partnership with ANM (Al Riyadh New Mobility), to work for the Riyadh Metro Line 3 which runs in the East-West direction along Al Madinah Al Munawwarah and Prince Saad Bin bdulrahman Al Awal Roads, starting at the west near Jeddah Expressway and ending at the east near the National Guard Camp of Khashm El Aan over 40.7 km with 20 stations.

The project is to be implemented during a period of four years, which will be preceded by eight months to prepare the detailed designs and to carry out the enabling works, the coordination for utilities diversion and the site preparation works, and followed by four months for system demonstration, trial runs and project handing over.

The project is expected to employ 45,000 people, and it will carry approximately 5,000 people.

Riyadh metro project history

The RPTP's plan was developed by the High Commission for the Development of Arriyadh. The plan received approval from the Riyadh Council of Ministers in April 2012. The RPTP project will also include construction of a bus network. The bus network will be an 85km three-line Bus Rapid Transport (BRT) network which will connect major places of Riyadh. All stations of the metro will be integrated with the bus network.

Lines / routes of the Saudi Arabian transport project The Riyadh metro will be 178km long with six lines and 85 stations including underground, elevated and at-grade sections. Line 1 (Blue Line) will run from Olaya Street to Al Hayer Road. It will be 44km long and will cover 39 stations. Line 2 (Green Line) will connect King Abdullah Road to the King Fahad Stadum. It will have 14 stations and be 22km long. Line 3 (Red Line) will run from Madina Al Munawra to Rahman Al Awal Road. It will be the longest line of the metro, at 45km. Line 4 (Orange Line) will run from the King Khaled International Airport to the new King Abdullah Financial District (KAFD). Line 5 (Yellow Line) will start from the King Abdul Aziz Road. It will be 26km long and have 26 stations. Line 6 (Purple Line) will connect Abdul Rahman bin Ouf Street to the Shaikh Hassan bin Hussain bin Ali Street. It will be 30km long and will feature nine stations.

Utilities Diversions At SDT we understand the risks and costs associated with delivering utility infrastructure and the impact they can have on the projects, if not delivered professionally. Our approach means we can help our clients understand the exposure, providing them with a realistic picture of what’s involved and how to get the best value for money through qualified, intelligent, experienced based, value engineering.

Given that there is a multiplicity of utilities – water, gas, sewers, power cables, communications cables – under the city streets, this is a significant and complex undertaking. Our work involves significant traffic management and requires arrangements that maintain accesses to premises and businesses.

The desire and commitment of our team gives SDT its unique strength and ability to continually challenge operational standards - redefining current practices within the industry. Every individual within the team understands the critical nature of our service and make it their priority to successfully deliver every day.

Our efficient and very deliberate approach provides clarity; by developing and employing effective systems and processes, we are able to make the most of the latest technology and software interfaces, giving utilities a level of transparency never achieved before.

Our team of engineers is committed to providing the highest quality service and we endeavor to bring innovative design wherever possible to save our clients, time, money and energy. The aim of our early input is to establish the Principle Objects to determine the cost and viability of the project:

Requirements for ‘Disconnections’ Extent of ‘Diversions’ Utility ‘Capacity’ availability Extent of works to service the new

development.

To establish these Principle Objects, our team: Collate existing utility company service

record drawings

Obtain existing ‘as fitted’ drawings of the site where applicable

Below ground utility location and mapping undertaken

Determine the requirement for:

Diversions due to new development Diversions / lowering of services due to

new road layouts Disconnections of existing services.

Develop a load schedule for gas, water & electricity to establish the extent of utility services capacity required

Obtain firm quotations from the relevant suppliers for the proposed works ƒ Produce a multi-utility services drawing presenting the site wide utilities strategy.

Our overall approach is to drive out best value for our clients together with the management and co-ordination of the Statutory Utility Service providers.
