Project Applications

Key Challenges Train-to-Track Transmission

Project Applications

Full software and hardware redundancy was required

Fixed bandwidth transmission links impose constraints on video codecs

Vehicle – Station video communication via TDMS and RF waveguide technology

Overall system availability required to be greater than 98.3%

CHALLENGE SOLUTION

Onboard system was designed to be dual redundant for critical elements

Inter-Station and OCC based video comms achieved with 2Mb/s MPEG2 codecs for SDH transmission

A challenging environment meant we designed in forward error correction within our codecs.

Overall the system is achieving 99% availability.

Summary

Advanced Technology + Innovative Network Topology = Successful Rail System

Combination of technologies is more fruitful than singular technology approach

Enhancing functionality and combining new with old is often most cost-effective

Very large, flexible CCTV systems can be established with minimal service disruption
