For the intercontinental rail traffic, Turkey is the one of the most important countries as a bridge between Europe and Asia.

The volume of trade with CIS countries is remarkably increased.

But the share of railways is not increased in parallel with the other modes of transport.

Ferry pier in Samsun has been completed and the construction works for bogie changing station are going on. We give great importance to the project which constitutes a new intermodal transport line between Turkey-Russia, Russia-Middle East and vv. and plan to activate it at the end of this year.

Taking into account the current load on trade flow between Turkey and Russia, the works to establish an efficient rail transport service by train-ferry line between Samsun Port-Kavkas Port was initiated in 2005.The Ministers of Transport of the two countries signed the Agreement between the Government of Russian Federation and the Government of Turkish Republic on the organisation of the mixed transport through Kavkas Port and Samsun Port on May 2010.A separate intergovernmental accord has been drafted at the experts groups meetings to define the rules to apply in several respects of this transport like using of wagons, liability, claims of handling procedures, consignment notes and the other technical issues. 8 RAIL-FERY LINE BETWEEN THE PORTS OF DERNCE AND ILICHEVSKOn June 2005, the Agreement For Cooperation in the field of rail transport was signed between the Ministers of the two countries. An intergovernmental convention on carrying of goods by ferry line between the ports of both countries have been prepared to be submitted for signing of the authorities of the Parties.This convention contains the provisions concerning using of wagons, liability, claims handling procedures, consignment notes and the other technical issues. VIKING TRAIN PROJECTA container train which is running regularly from Klaipeda Port (Lithuania) to lichevsk Port (Ukraine).Project aims ;to provide its connection with the ferry operated between lichesk and Derince Portto expand the carriage of goods to the Mediterranean Sea, Middle East and Central Asia. Marmaray Projesi, Avrupa yakasndaki Halkaly, Anadolu yakasndaki Gebzeye kesintisiz, modern ve yksek kapasiteli bir banliy hatt sistemi ile balayarak stanbul banliy sistemini gelitirmektir. Bu proje ile her iki yakadaki demiryolu hatlar; stanbul Boaznn altndan geen bir demiryolu tneli ile birbirine balanacaktr. Hat, Yedikulede yeraltna girmekte, Yenikap ve Sirkeci yeralt istasyonlar ile devam etmekte, Boazn altndan geerek skdar yeralt istasyonuna balanmakta ve Stleme de yzeye kmaktadr. Sirkeci ve skdarda 2 ara istasyon yer alacak olup, 4 yeni yer alt istasyonu ( Yedikule, Yenikap, Sirkeci ve skdar ) yaplacaktr. yiletirilen ve yeni yaplan ksmlar ile bu rayl sistemin tamam yaklak 76 km. uzunluunda olacaktr.Bu proje ile 63km. uzunluundaki Gebze- Halkal arasndaki ift hat demiryolu 3 hatta karlacak tr. Ana yaplar ve sistemler, batrma tp tnel, delme tneller, a-kapa tneller, hemzemin hatlar, 4 yeni yeralt istasyonu, 37 hemzemin istasyon ( yenileme iyiletirme ), mevcut hatlarn iyiletirilmesi (hemzemin kesimde nc hat dahil olmak zere ), tamamen yeni elektro mekanik sistemler ile modern demiryolu tatlarnn alnmasn iermektedir. The Marmaray Project provides an upgrading of the commuter rail system in stanbul, connecting Halkali on the European side with Gebze on the Asian side with an uninterrupted modern high-capacity commuter rail system. The Project includes a railway tunnel connection under the Bosphorus. The tunnel goes underground at Yedikule, connects to the Yenikapi and Sirkeci new underground stations, passes under the Bosphorus and connects to the skdar new underground station, and emerges at Stleme. There will be two transfer stations at Sirkeci and skdar and 4 new underground stations ( Yedikule, Yenikap, Sirkeci ve skdar ) will be constructed.The entire upgraded and new railway system will be approximately 76 km long. Two track railway of 63 km between Gebze Halkal will be three tracks by means of this project. The main structures and systems include the immersed tube tunnel, bored tunnels, cut-and-cover tunnels, open cuts, four new underground stations, 37 surface stations (renovation and upgrading), upgrading of existing tracks (including a new third track on ground), completely new electrical and mechanical systems and procurement of modern railway vehicles. Kars-Tbilisi-Baku Railway LineThe construction of Kars-Tblisi new railway line is one of our important projects on the East-West axis.

The Project includes construction of 76 kms in our territory and 29 kms in Georgia territory.

By this Project there will be an easy access to Middle Asia and China with a direct railway link through Turkey- Georgia and Azerbaijan.

It is envisaged to transport 6.5 million tons of cargo at the beginning by Kars-Tblisi-Baku railway line which will be an important railway corridor between Europe and Asia
