“We bought the property in 2007,” explains Charlie. “We’d been living in central

London and we were looking for a larger, family

home. After a long search both in London and

beyond, we discovered Radwell Grange. It had

had nothing done to it in 30 years, except that

one of the barns had been turned into a private

theatre with a stage and lighting by the late Sir

Nigel Hawthorne, a previous owner.”

old Formica kitchen with hand-built cabinets of solid oak, which

were specially made to fit around the open studwork dividing the

kitchen from the breakfast area. The kitchen also now incorporates

a four-oven Aga.”

“The house has a lovely, happy atmosphere,” continues Charlie. “We’ve

loved entertaining people in the large sunny garden room, where we’ve seated 15

to 20 people. I’ll particularly miss the garden, which has also been wonderful for the

children. It’s a safe garden – and that includes the large pond, which has a fence

around it.”

“On the first floor, we opened up the studwork wall of what had been a small windowless room adjoining the master bedroom. The area now gets light from the bedroom window and provides en suite facilities with a bath, twin wash hand

basins and an enclosed WC. There are two more en suite bedrooms and a further bathroom.”
