Radnor High School Newsletter Issue 10 June 2016 FROM THE PRINCIPAL As we come to the end of this school year, I want to thank the RHS community for their continued support as we worked together to meet the academic and social needs of our students. I astounded by all the successful stories that were created by our students during the 2015-16 school year. Whether it was an academic accomplishment in the classroom, a win on the athletic field, a concert performance, or some type of community service, our students consistently showed a true sense of commitment to reach their goals. They are a true representation of why we use the term “Radnor Proud”. None of this, however, would be possible without the strong partnership our school has with parents and guardians. This bond has helped us to be the springboard that allows our students to propel to the next level of success. As we look towards graduation, we are so proud of our seniors, and wish them the best in their future endeavors. A Radnor education is a truly valuable thing. We know the Class of 2016 will continue to shine, and look forward to hearing the success stories of our new batch of graduates long after they leave our halls. I wish each of you a safe and relaxing summer and look I forward to greeting a new freshman class in the fall.

From the Instructional Coach What an exciting end to the year! I was fortunate enough to be a part of two new projects at Radnor High School this spring. First, we hosted the Delaware County Intermediate Unit’s Reading Olympics early in May. Schools from all over the county competed on our turf for the coveted Blue Ribbons. It was a true team effort and the competition went off without a hitch. I need to thank everyone who volunteered their time to make the competition a huge success! The second event, the unveiling of the Wall of Honor, took place on May 26. Since February, students have been engaged in an authentic research project for their American Studies classes. Their task was to memorialize Radnor High School students who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our Nation, in World War I, World War II and the Vietnam War through researching the inductees' lives and histories. Students have been working diligently since February, researching their veteran using Ancestry.com, Fold3, and various internet sites. Some students have reached out via email to Regiments or other contacts which have been uncovered in their search. They have been gathering images, perusing yearbooks, and digging deep to craft a story of the soldiers’ young adult lives, gathering enough information to create an iMovie that will be accessible via an interactive touchscreen on display in our lobby along with a flag box for each brave veteran. These students worked SO hard and their teachers are thrilled with the results. Next time you are in RHS, stop by the auditorium lobby to check it out! And last but not least, summer is right around the corner. Access the LibGuide titled Study Skills which includes beneficial information for both parents and students. Pay close attention to the Study Island tab, for introductory details on the web-based tool students, who are working to pass the Keystone Exams, can access from home to brush up on skills in Algebra, Biology, and Literature. Not every student is in the Study Island system, so please contact me for log-in details. The guide also contains information on Keystone Exams, vocabulary skills, and aptitude tests. The SAT has been redesigned for the coming year. Want to know more? Check out the page! Frances Misener Radnor High School Instructional Coach
