1. Introduction

1.1 Objectives

To provide details on radio frequency spectrum designations in South Africa as produced by the SABRE band planning exercise.

1.2 Scope

Radio waves fall in the frequency spectrum between 3Hz and 3GHz. This part of the spectrum has twelve bands, which will be covered in this document.

2.1 Frequency Spectrum Bands

In order to accomplish effective use of the radio spectrum, the frequencies are allocated to specific services with similarity in terms of radiated power and interference features. This has been agreed under a global organisation, the International Telecommunication Union (ITU). Table 1 below shows the frequency spectrum bands.
