INTRODUCTION

Sahara Filmy was started on 12th February, 2006. Filmy is an Indian Hindi language

movie channel. It is owned by Sahara One Media and Entertainment Limited.

An exclusive all-Bollywood movie channel, Sahara Filmy’s close connections to

the filmmaking community and years of experience in film production and distribution lend a

clear advantage in bringing viewers the finest movies and the freshest, most complete

coverage of Bollywood’s best-loved personalities and creators. A schedule of quality

Bollywood movies is enhanced by up-to-the-minute news of the entertainment industry,

insightful celebrity interviews, the hottest gossips, and previews of the latest films and film

music.

The channel, according to Mr Ashutosh, Business Head, Filmy, is completely `filmi'

in spirit, and not only airs films but also comes up with a gamut of film-based shows. "Filmy

is a unique entertainment channel with a focus on Hindi movies. It has strong original

programming in innovative formats to complement the movie content. The channel has a mix

of narrative and humorous programming, which is a key USP of the movies and movie-

related shows offered by the channel."

Programs

Meri Bhains ko Anda Kyun Maara

According to a recent medical report, famous comedy scenes from recent blockbusters

like Partner, Heyy Babyy, Dhamaal, Sunday, Namastey London and Lage Raho Munnabhai

among others have resulted in large populations falling prey to a dangerous laughing disease.

Known to induce uncontrollable laughter and immeasurable chuckles, doctors have not yet been

able to find a cure to this mysterious ailment.

But until they do find a cure, one cannot question the awesome collection of comedy

scenes in 'Meri Bhains Ko Anda Kyon Maara' - a half-hour daily double dose of the funniest

scenes from very popular, brand-new films! Now in an all-new look and with an all-new Bhains!

Only on FILMY!

Bathroom Singer

As extraordinary as any program on Filmy, it’s a reality singing show with a difference!

FILMY, India’s youngest Hindi movie channel, announced ‘Bathroom Singer’ – an

extraordinary reality show about ordinary people, and their journey to stardom. The show is a

hunt for an untrained singer who can capture the hearts of millions with the unique combination

of singing and the entertainment quotient or ‘jhaag’.

Ravi Kishan and Shibani Kashyap are the judges of the show. The show is going to focus

more on the entertainment factor of the participants than on their singing talent.

Kya Aap Panchvi Fail Champu

Hain

Kya Aap Paanchvi Fail Champu Hain? is a game show on Indian Television and

a parody on STAR Plus Show, Kya Aap Paanchvi Pass Se Tez Hain?. In English it

translates to "Are you Dumber than a 5th Grade Failure?"

The cheats are Nok-Jhok (A Parody on Taak-Jhaak), Copycat (A Parody on

Copy) and Bajaao (A parody on Bachaao).

Kaun Banega champu

This is a spoof on the well known show, Kaun Banega Crorepati. The show was

aired off on Sahara Filmy on February 11, 2007 at 7:30 p.m. and aired every following

Sunday. It was hosted by stand-up comedian Sunil Grover with the name of "Ruk Ruk

Khan", an obvious spoof of the current Kaun Banega Crorepati host, Shahrukh Khan. The

show invites "spoofed" celebrity guests to play the game.

Pipelines are the spoof on lifelines. The pipelines are Audience Jhol, which refers

to the polling of audiences, towards a particular question, same as in the original version

but the twist in the first session was that nobody from the audience voted, because the

participant was none other than Sanjay Dutt's Duplicate, who is wielding a gun and

threatens people. In the end the poll is zero and the participant loses out. Quite hilarious

and has the entire audience in peals of laughter. Also, Kaun Hai Friend – spoof on Call a

friend and Sexy 20 – spoof of 50/50.

Filmy Stock Exchange

Filmy launched one of the biggest Bollywood gaming properties of all time, the

FILMY Stock Exchange (FSE). Well known actor Arshad Warsi, who’s the brand

ambassador for FSE, launched the game at a press conference held on the Hilton Towers,

Mumbai. FILMY Stock Exchange gives Bollywood fans an opportunity to ‘own’ their

favorite stars. The game began from October 1, and can be played on the mobile and the

Internet. Registered users get 1000 FILMY Rupees (FRs) to create their portfolio of stars.

The stock prices will change every hour on the basis of trading trends, box office

performance, and industry news and gossip. Players can redeem their surplus FILMY

Rupees for big, exciting prizes.

One Break Movie

One Break Movie is a movie show which recreates the magic of the cinema-

watching experience in your own home. With some of the biggest hits lined up, there’s

no better way to spend your Sunday afternoon. On January 25 2009 the movie to be aired

is Sandwich, starring Govinda.

The story is that Sher Singh lives with his mother and handicapped sister in

Punjab but moves to Mumbai, changes his name to Shekhar, meets Nisha and falls in

love. On his return, Shekhar is surprised to find out that the Zamindar's son is ready to

marry his sister on the condition that Shekhar marry the zamindar’s daughter- Sweety. He

has no alternative and marries Sweety. On his return to Mumbai, he realizes Nisha is

forced to marry against her wishes, so he agrees to marry Nisha. Thus, Shekhar has 2

wives- Nisha and Sweety. The story takes a twist when his look alike enters the fray.

Saturday Blockbuster

Every Saturday at 8 PM, FILMY ensures that one don’t need to go anywhere to

get their regular dose of the biggest blockbusters and the coolest stars. So don’t forget the

popcorn, turn on FILMY and throw away the remote … there’s only one plan for

Saturday nights from now onwards – it's Saturday Blockbusters.

This show has movies like Sarkar (on 24th January 2009), Lakshya etc

Hollywood Smash Hitz

The biggest international hits dubbed in Hindi, are shipped directly to television

screens, to ensure guaranteed paisa vasool entertainment for Thursday nights. With the

hottest titles from some of the biggest studios across Hollywood, ‘Hollywood Smash

Hits’ is the best choice for world-famous dubbed cinema, at home.

On 22nd January at 8 PM the movie Air Force One starring Harrison Ford was

aired. This is the story where Harrison Ford’s back and he’s doing what he does best …

beating up the bad guys! President of the United States, James Marshall, has just is on his

way from Moscow after outlining a new US policy of zero-tolerance towards terrorism.

On the flight home, terrorists take over Air Force One (the President's official plane) and

take his wife and daughter hostage. But the terrorists are in for a surprise when they

realize they picked on the wrong president to mess with.

Conclusion

In the entire process of observing the channel Filmy, it is obvious that it is a

channel with a unique way of presenting movies. It manages to entertain its viewers and

keep them amused and interested. It also showcases great movies and therefore is

growing into a well known and highly liked channel.

The programs on Filmy, like One-Break movie and Meri Bhains ko Anda Kyun

Maara reflect a changing trend in media’s presentation format, especially of the cinema

based channels, which now seem to cater the people’s wishes by helping them relax with

a number of humorous scenes and by shortening out the annoying advertisements in the

middle of movies on television.

There is still scope for betterment in the channel. Perhaps if a couple of young

hosts could anchor the show ‘Meri Bhains ko Anda kyun Maara’, and interleave the

comedy sequences with their humour, the show would be even more popular.

Finally, the channel reflects the new and enriched system of channels with well

structured and intelligent Unique Selling Propositions.
