Message from the ChairmanOver the past few months many people have asked mewhere the idea of a Winchcombe Festival of Music andArts came from. The answer is a fusion of ideas fromPeter Teague (Festival Associate Director), Bill Pullen(local musician) and myself – all enthusiastically backedand supported by the Winchcombe Business Forum.

The Festival has four main aims:

• To showcase local musical and artistic talent.

• To provide a relatively low-cost opportunity forWinchcombe residents and visitors toexperience live music and arts.

• To provide a major community event forWinchcombe and its wider environs.

• To attract visitors and raise the profile ofWinchcombe as a special place.

Over six full days the Festival Committee is presenting a varied programme – ranging fromclassical, instrumental and vocal music, blues, folk and jazz, through to art and sculptureexhibitions, pottery, drama, poetry and dance. A Street Fair on Bank Holiday Monday roundsoff the Festival week.

We are grateful for the support of various individuals and organisations. Foremost among theseare our Festival-wide sponsors and individual event sponsors, who have been generous in theirfinancial support. Also we have received great help and encouragement from the wide range ofvenues we are using within and outside the town. Thank you to all of these.

The twelve members of the Festival Committee have worked tirelessly over nine months tomake this Festival happen. Their time, dedication and expertise have turned a set of ideasinto reality.

Over 300 performers and artists will contribute to the Festival; we are privileged to have theopportunity to experience such an array of talent.

I hope you’ll agree that this first Festival of Music and Arts will provide us with an opportunityto celebrate, to put our town firmly on the cultural map, and to generate a ‘feel-good’ factorand pride in Winchcombe as a special place to live, work and visit. With the additional offeringsof our good friends at Sudeley, Prescott, Winchcombe Welcomes Walkers and GWR atToddington, there is a great deal on offer in May and June. Enjoy!
