Bonus Inside! Top 12 Super Stock Photos Their Longest Race, and for Double Points The Super Stock Showdown will highlight tonight’s racing at Five Flags Speedway. The Wayne’s Diner 35 lap race could pretty much decide the championship for 2009, or it could really tighten up the battle for the title. The event will be run for an extra ten laps but most important, the drivers will re- ceive double points for their effort. Pascagoula Mississippi’s Shan- non Jackson will lead all drivers at the start and he’s surely hoping for a good finish. He leads Crestview’s John Shuffler by a mere 26 points. Randy Thompson, Earl Polk and Mike Moore round out the top five. The Super Stock drivers will qualify for the first time this year. The season is nearing the end and they all know that tonight could be the deciding factor. Special thanks to Wayne’s Din- er just up the street from the track for their support here at Five Flags Speedway, tonight and all year long. The Pro Late Models have a tight points race too. Milton’s Keith Thorpe is only 4 points behind Ronnie Smith. All the points are listed on the back page. Hey, did you notice our Eddie Mer- cer on the telecast of the NASCAR truck race from Bristol last week? Ed- die was not racing, but in the pit chat- ting with Kyle Bush before the race. Eddie was easy to spot, his left arm is in a sling. He is recovering from a fracture the afternoon of our last Blizzard race. While loading his car in the rig. he got into some hornets. While avoiding the stingers, he tripped and fell on his arm. He got stung too. Here is a photo of Ed with his arm wrapped before the last race. One final word. we are looking forward to host- ing the first respond- ers from our 2 coun- ties at the next race. We are honored to have our local heroes and families here as our guests. -Steve Steve Stokes is a track official, and also host of the BLAB television show. 5 Flags Speedway Aug 28, 2009 #13

So, What’s a Super Stock

It’s an exciting car to build and drive, yet less expensive than a Pro Late Model. The rules are for a 1970 or newer American made sedan with a 108 inch wheel base, weighing at least 3150 pounds including the driver. The power is from a V8 362 CID engine, with a manual transmission. Many are “crate engines”. A roll cage with 1 3/4 inch roll bars must bebuilt to track specs. Gas is stored in a fuel cellwith max of 22 gallons. Rear spoiler is 6 1/2 inches high max, and angle is regulated. A helmet, fire suit, neck collar ring and win-dow net are among a list of safety features for the car and driver. All cars run on the same Hoosier tire. More details on our web site.

National Anthem

Tina and Rick Davidson were in victory lane at the last race to congratulate Shanna Ard. Ard won the Sports-men race in a car on loan from the Davidsons. Rick is undergoing chemotherapy in his battle with cancer.
