2XU in The Gardens sells a wide range

o pouches, belts and hand held stu

or storing your water, gels, phone, keys

etc. Part o me wants to be streamlined

and carry as little as possible but on thelonger runs here I do eel that my gels etc.

have become a bit o a security blanket,

    same or the water.

A git that will keep on giving is a

    subscription to Runners World magazine.

Its a good read and you can get the UK,

US or Aussie version delivered straight

to your iPad or post box. A more local

style option would be to sign them up

to Pacesetters Running Club so they will

receive their magazine, can join training

runs and also get discounts on almost all

races. The magazine is not as ancy but it

    certainly works out cheaper.

    Happy Running!

    by Rachel Joseph

Most runners who take partin races, end up with anoverowing drawer o event

T-shirts to run in. A great git idea

may be some kind o storage

system or these and also or the

medal collection. The ones I have

here are in a shoe box and the ones

I let behind are hung in strategic

places around my mums house to

act as burglar alarms (yes, its her

ault Im crazy). There has to be a

    better way!

A quirky git or aemale runner could be

    a running skirt. They

    make a nice change

    and are available in

    lots o designs and

    sizes, starting at

    about RM130 rom

    Athletes Circle, Jaya

    One.

Im in love with Injini toe socks. Ive never

lost a toenail since I started running in

these and now have many pairs. They are

    about RM60 a pair

    and are available

    in plain or stripes.

    You can purchase

    these at Athletes

    Circle or Running

    Labs, Tropicana

    City Mall.

    One o the most inspiring

    running books Ive ever

read is, What I TalkAbout When I Talk About

    Running by my avourite

    author, Haruki Murakami.

    I read this almost entirely

    in Epsom Salts baths

whilst training or my frst marathon.

My Lie on The Run, by

Bart Yasso is also a lovely

    book which makes me

    think I wanna do that,

    several times per chapter!

On my Christmas listis a brace o books by

    Dean Karnazes such as

    Ultramarathon Man (an

ultra is anything longer than a marathon

and hes done lots!), and 50/50 about

running 50 marathons in 50 days.

    Remember that bookdepository.com

oers ree international delivery i you are

unable to fnd these books here.

Many runners have a mantra to get them

through those tough runs or a quote that

has inspired them. How about some kind

o print eaturing these powerul words?

You could design something yoursel to

make it ultra personal. I you need some

inspiration, have a look on the internet.

Stocking fller size gits include Gu energy

gels, the only brand that doesnt have the

consistency o semen! They cost RM8

rom GNC (next to Nandos in Bangsar

Village 1). They also sell recovery drinks,

though I tend to avour a delicious cup

o Tetley, builders strength, soya milk,

no sugar... Village Grocer is currently

stocking Jelly Belly sports beans! They

taste delicious and were eective at

reuelling but I ound it was not possibleto eat them while running.

Epsom Salts, RM5, are available in all

chemists, but ask or youll never fnd

    them. My chiropractor recommends

them or soaking in the bath pre and post

run. They do something like stop lactate

build up. I cant remember, but Ive tried

with and without and Im convinced.

Tablets to put in your drinks to replace

minerals etc. lost in your sweat are

available rom the bike shop in Bangsar orany o the running shops Ive mentioned.

I never bother with these in the UK but

I really do think you need them here or

    anything over about 10 miles.
