Hiked in Grand Teton National Park and Norway's Jutenheimen National Park.
Wrote stories as a child, often about the country life, even though she grew up in New York City.
Has a passion for social justice and fairness that she refers to as “fighting the darkness!”
Interviewed many of Carson’s friends while researching for this book.

Who was Rachel Carson?• She was born to a fairly poor family on
May 27, 1907.• From a young age, she had a kinship
with animals and nature.• She would take nature walks with her
mother, who never taught her to memorize the names of plants and creatures. “When you see creatures in the places they live,” she would say, “watch them as they go about their lives. Then their names will have meaning.”
Younger YearsAt a young age, her family
moved to a farm near Pittsburgh, PA, ironically one of the most polluted cities in the U.S. at the time.
