‘Rachana' is a Sanskrit word derived from the

root 'rach' meaning 'to create' or 'make'. This is

an apt word to describe our forthcoming steps.

At the Adani Institute of Infrastructure, we

aspired for new dreams and hence, created a

base with our first newsletter Adhisthana. The

second newsletter, Rachana, goes on to show

how the Adani Institute of Infrastructure has

created a masterpiece from that base.

Being nation builders, our goal has always been

to be able to carve a new India with the best

possible infrastructure. Rachana captures the

essence of our activities towards creating

infrastructure for a new India.

The Infra Consortium

• Established in the year 2009, the Adani Institute for Education and Research

(AIER) is supported by the Infrastructure conglomerate, Adani Group, and guided

by the Infrastructure visionary of the nation, Shri Gautam Adani

• AII is a self-financed institution promoted by Adani Group under AIER, with the

vision to be a leading Global Economic Academic Institution in the Infrastructure

sector contributing to nation building

AII's International Academic Collaboration with Purdue University, USA

AII's Academic Collaboration with Government of Gujarat's Centre for Entrepreneurship Development

The AII (an Adani Group initiative), on behalf of AIIM and AIIE, and the Purdue University, USA, on behalf

of its Purdue Polytechnic Institute, have established an international academic collaboration to foster

cooperation in education and research. To promote

internat iona l academic cooperat ion , th is

collaboration aims to include activities, viz. exchange

of students, exchange of faculty and research

scholars, joint research and meetings for education

and research as well as exchange of materials,

publications, academic information and technical

assistance.

The Business Counselling Cell at Centre for Entrepreneurship Development (CED), Government of

Gujarat, is the knowledge partner for entrepreneurship development at AII. With this collaboration,

various programmes like entrepreneur education, boot camps, educators programme, hackathon,

faculty development programme, etc. are done. We encourage budding entrepreneurs, researchers,

students and faculty to ideate and develop new concepts of business and provide them mentoring,

developing, funding, research opportunities, etc.

Inauguration@ AIIrd• Inauguration of 3 Batch (2017-19) of PGMD-IM Students

rdAIIM opened its doors to the 3 batch (2017-19) of its flagship 2-year full-time PGDM (Infrastructure

Management) programme. The induction session

saw Mr. H.K. Dash (IAS 1980 batch), Head of Gujarat

Vigilance Commission, as Chief Guest and Dr. Malay

Mahadevia, Group HR Director, Adani Group, and

Trustee, AII, as Guest of Honour. The programme

also witnessed motivating words by Dr. A.V. Thomas,

Director, AII, Prof. Diptiranjan Mahapatra, Head-

Academics, AIIM, and vote of thanks by Dr. Pankaj

Singh, Head-Services, AII, and Vice President, Group

HR, Adani Group.

• AIIE's Orientation Programme

AIIE organised the orientation programme for its new batch of students on August 03, 2017, to

welcome them at AIIE at the beginning of the new academic sessions.

• Inauguration of AIIM Case Study Centre

AIIM Case Study Centre was formally inaugurated by Dr. A.V. Thomas, Director, on November 21, 2017,

by clicking on the link of first case on the case centre webpage entitled ‘The Adani Group: Building a

Profitable Value-Chain and a Professional Organisation’ authored by Prof. Diptiranjan Mahapatra,

Prof. Kamal Kishore Sharma, Prof. Amit Karna. Dr. Pankaj Singh, Head Services, AII. The Director and

authors of the first case were the key eminent speakers of the inauguration ceremony. The case

study method of teaching is a unique pedagogy in the institute offering the reality of managerial

decision-making – incomplete information, time constraints and conflicting goals – as students

learn how to analyse business situations.

• AII – Heritage Club Inaugural Ceremony

AII celebrated the inaugural ceremony of AII - Heritage Club, in association with SPIC MACAY, by

sharing a glimpse of the magnificent and rich Gotipua dance of Odisha on August 18, 2017. The

Culture! at AII Heritage Club explores the meaning of heritage to understand ourselves better, and to

appreciate the cultural interconnectedness of the past, present and the future. AII Heritage Club is a

students' initiative to relish and celebrate Creativity, Culture, and Diversity of the nation.

• Vibrant Gujarat 2017

AIIM was recognised with the industry honour of 'Emerging Institute for Infrastructure

Management' in the special achievement category for its outstanding academic contribution to the thinfrastructure and construction industry, during the 6 EPC World Awards in association with

PricewaterhouseCoopers and Zee Business, on January 18, 2017, at the Ashok Hotel, New Delhi. The

awards were supported by national and international industry associations: BAI (Builders

Association of India), VDMA (Verband Deutscher Maschinenund Anlagenbau – German Engineering

Federation), INSDAG (Institute for Steel Development and Growth) and ACCE (Association of

Consulting Civil Engineers). Shri Suresh Prabhu (Hon'ble Minister of Railways) and Dr. Narendra Nath

Pandey (Hon'ble Minister of State for Human Resources Development) were Chief Guests at the

event. Dr. Mahendra Nath Pandey, during the

felicitation ceremony, appreciated the efforts

of the infrastructure industry towards nation

building and handed over the award to AIIM

representatives, Dr. Diptiranjan Mahapatra,

Head – Academics, AIIM, and Mr. Hiren

Mandaliya, Head – Admissions, AII. Dr.

Diptiranjan Mahapatra, was invited to speak at

the Event on ‘Infrastructure Outlook for 2017’.

Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) is the world's largest technical professional

organisation dedicated to advancing technology for the benefit of humanity. IEEE membership

offers access to technical innovation, cutting-edge information, networking opportunities and

exclusive member benefits. The IEEE Student Branch at AIIE was started on December 5, 2017, under

IEEE Gujarat Section, India of Region -10 (Asia Pacific) by Dr. Ajay Kumar Vyas, Assistant Professor,

AIIE Branch Counsellor, under the guidance of Dr. A.V. Thomas, Director - AII, and Dr. Pankaj Singh

Conferences & Seminarsth• AII, in collaboration with the Ahmedabad Library Network (ADINET), celebrated the 125 birth

anniversary of Dr. S.R. Ranganathan (Father of Library

Science in India) on the occasion of Librarians' Day by

holding a seminar on August 12, 2017 at the AII campus.

Objective of the seminar was to provide a forum for

discussion and exchange of ideas on the major seminar

theme ‘Re-imagining Today's Librarianship’. Dr. A.V. Thomas,

Director, AII, Dr. Anil Kumar H., Librarian and Head NICMAN,

Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad (IIMA), Dr. R.

Samyuktha, University Librarian, Pondicherry University, and

Ms. Rhoda Bharucha, Hon. Director, Ahmedabad Library Network

(ADINET), were key eminent professionals in the seminar. The

seminar started with the launching of proceeding entitled ‘Re-

imagining Today's Librarianship: ADINET 2017. Proceedings of th125 Birthday Celebrations of Dr. S.R. Ranganathan’ edited by

Manu T.R., Nupur Vaishnav and Rhoda Bharucha. Around 330

participants and paper presenters from India as well as abroad

especially from Dubai were part of the seminar.

• AII, in association with DCB Bank Ltd., concluded the first Fintech Hackathon, non-stop for 30 hours

on September 18, 2017. This initiative promoted the development of financial technology for banking

industry and its customers with the help of Fintech. Over 100 students participated across Gujarat

and created products for lending, risk management, trading, investing, personal finance, big data,

retail banking, regulatory compliance, mobile payments, security and enterprise social. Dr. Pankaj

Singh, Head Services - AII, Mr. Jaymin Shah, Nasscom Chairman Domestic Council, Mr. Prassana

Lohar, Chief Innovation Officer, DCB Ltd., motivated the budding entrepreneurs with their

experience.

• Entrepreneurship Educator Programme

AIIE organised a training programme on Learning from Past Failures from October 31 to November 1,

2017. The two-day programme included eight different modules of one and half hour each. There

were 24 participants from across the Adani Group's Senior Managerial and Managerial Levels. Dr.

V.M. Patel, Dr. Mitesh Popat, Mr. Sameer Patel and Mr. Bhavin Shah were the speakers at this event.

AII collaborated with the National Entrepreneurship Network (NEN) for a five-day workshop on

'Entrepreneurship Educator Programme (EEP)' from July 25 to 29, 2017. This workshop was aimed at

preparing educators to guide students to discover their strengths in terms of an entrepreneurial

founding team and learn basics such as idea generation, opportunity discovery, prototyping,

competition analysis, funding and more. This programme was successfully conducted under the

guidance of Dr. Pankaj Singh, Head-Services - AII, and saw participation of 30 professors from various

institutes across Gujarat.

• Workshop on Leadership Dynamics

AII held a workshop on Leadership Dynamics by international leadership coach, Mr. Peter Cox, on

March 1, 2017. Mr. Peter Cox, a Global Leadership Coach, is amongst the top three leadership coaches

of Australia. His impact has been experienced in the spheres of business and sports at the highest

level of competitiveness. Mr. Cox shared insights on his fine coaching philosophy and methodology

along with the results of his work with some leading business and sports personalities.

• National Workshop on Power Electronics & Power System Simulation Platform

AIIE in association with TechLabs organised a two-day National Workshop on 'Power Electronics &

Power System Simulation Platform on October 12 & 13, 2017. The objective of the workshop was to

impart in-depth knowledge in the selection and design of power converter circuits. This workshop

focused on the modelling and design of advanced power electronic converters for electric motors

using PSIM and CYME. The participants got hands-on experience with the PSIM and CYME software

packages. Dr. A.V. Thomas, Director, AII, and Dr. V.M. Patel, Principal, AIIE, were the patrons of the

programme chaired by Dr. Kiran Parmar, Professor & Head, Electrical Engineering, AIIE. The workshop

provided an opportunity to understand the concepts of power electronic systems and design it using

appropriate software and imparting high-end technical inputs for real-time applications.

Distinguished Lectures @ AII

• Entrepreneurship & Innovation Talk Series

The session on Entrepreneurship & Innovation Talk Series focused on building a bold and brave

entrepreneurial mindset coupled with a skill set that is befitting a changing world. The seminar also

aimed at preparing students to be an agent for change in the business and the society at large with

innovative methods. Under this inspirational series, AII invited Shilpa Malik, Founder – Bioscan

Research, Ms. Sanskruti Panchal, Claris Capital, Innovations to Incorporations, and Mr. Ashish

Kanujia, NxG Ventures, Emerging Technologies and Cutting Edge Innovations, to talk on various

aspects of business building and skill development. These talks helped to challenge assumptions,

promote belief-in-self and provided a push to be the best leader one can possibly be.

Core Infrastructure Week

AIIE conducted the Core Infrastructure Week

(CIW) during April 10 to 14, 2017. CIW is an

annual week-long infrastructure industry-

engaged learning programme aimed at

providing engineering students with the

professionals . Ever y year, CIW sees

infrastructure experts from not just Adani

National Day Celebration

• Women's Day at AII

st• 71 Indian Independence Day Celebration at AII

• Children's Day

International Women's Day is celebrated every year to mark the contribution of women in society. AII

applauded the achievements of its female staff, students and colleagues from Sodexo on this day. An

event for International Women's Day was organised on March 9, 2017, at AII campus. Poster making

on the theme ‘Sahasik Kadam’, Bold steps for future, was the ice breaking activity of the event. It had

an active participation and invited speakers judged the contest. A seminar and discussion session

was then followed by high tea. The seminar on the IWD theme, involved two guest speakers from the

Adani Group, Dr. Sushma Oza, CEO, Adani Foundation, and Ms. Leena Bhatt from Adani Chairman's

Office. The guests shared their experiences on work life balance and instilled a sense of confidence

and self-belief in the girls. An interactive Q&A session was followed by prize distribution before the

closure of the event. Prizes were bought from Blind People's Association prepared by the students

trained there.

stAII celebrated the 71 Indian Independence Day at the AII campus by the unfurling of the flag by

Dr. A.V. Thomas, Director, AII, and remembering the great freedom revolution of the nation.

A celebration was organised to mark Children's Day at the AII campus for the site worker's children on

November 14, 2017. These site workers work to make the life of people easy and safe at the Adani

Shantigram Township. AIIM students, staff and faculty members gave 60 children of site-workers' a

happy fun-filled day with activities like playing games, cake cutting ceremony, gift distribution and

much more.

• Rangat 2017

• SPIC MACAY – Programme

Rangat 2017 was organised at AII with a lot of zeal and vigour on September 27, 2017, to give glimpses

of our culture in the form of Garba and Dandiya. It is a club to understand, preserve and cherish the

rich heritage of our composite culture.

AIIM, in collaboration with the Society for Promotion of Indian Classical Music and Culture Amongst

Youth (SPIC MACAY), witnessed its first lecture demonstration by National Awardee Kathak dancer

Rani Khanam. She is one of the leading performers of Lucknow Gharana of Kathak and performed at

AIIM auditorium on July 6, 2017.

AII conducted its Annual Sports and Cultural Festival, Aspire 2017, from April 7 to 9, 2017. It was a

fun-packed event with games, cultural activities, a fashion show, music, stand-up comedy and much

• Fire & Safety & Meditation

A programme on Fire & Safety & Meditation was conducted for the employees of AII on November 4,

2017, to encourage employees to commit to their organisation's goals & values, and be motivated

towards contributing to the organisation's success with an enhanced sense of their own well-being.

• Discussion on Union Budget – 2017

AIIM students engaged in an animated discussion on the 'Union Budget - 2017: a Hit or a Miss'.

• Public Speaking Contest

An intra-class and inter-class public speaking contest had been organised at AIIE. A total of 72

students participated in the event, and out of those participants, 16 students from different classes

were selected for the final round. Dr. Prateek Kanchan, Director, B.K. School of Business

Management, was the Guest of Honour while the jury members were Dr. A.V. Thomas, Director, AII, Dr.

V.M. Patel, Principal, AIIE, and Er. Kuntal Sanghavi. The entire event was coordinated by Dr. Mitesh

Popat at the college level.
