Statue in the Royal Botanic Gardens at 11:30am followed by lunch at the

Royal Automobile Club of Australia 89 Macquarie Street, Sydney.

The Guest Speaker Mr Patrick Dodd will be speaking on Governor Macquarie.

The Club’s Food and Wine Group - Corks ‘n’ Forks - is pleased to invite members and their guests to our Italian Wine Tour, to be held on Thursday 8 October in the Vintage Room on

level 5. The tour will commence at 6pm and conclude around 8.15pm.

The tour will take us on a vinous journey through a number of Italy’s wine regions

from Veneto in the north to Sicily in the south, and we’ll taste 12 wines along the way – 1

sparkler, 4 whites, and 7 reds. They’re a diverse, well-chosen quality selection ranging

from the grand wines of Barolo, Amarone and Rosso di Montalcino to some obscure

but very good wines from indigenous grape varieties you may not have

previously enjoyed.It will be a seated event led by Italian wine aficionado Steve Blandford, who’ll take us through the wines. To ensure you don’t get lost, we’ll provide you with a wine map of

Italy and some tasting notes. To ensure you don’t get hungry, we’ll be matching the

wines with some traditional Italian dishes – think prawn and fennel risotto, vitello tonnato

- to enjoy along the way.The evening will be relaxed and informal,

and will appeal to anyone wanting to learn about the wonderful world of Italian wines for the first time, through to those wishing to take

their existing knowledge to the next level.The cost will be $70 per head, and there are only 18 places available, so if you’d like to

join the tour you should contact Club as soon as possible .

Would you like to meet up with a keen group of cue enthusiasts at the Royal

Automobile Club? Are you looking for an activity within the Club that anyone at any

skill level can enjoy inside the RAC? The RACA Snooker Club is open to ALL Club members. Our group seeks to grow and

expand friendships, connections and conviviality.

The Combined Clubs Snooker Competition Annual Dinner was a great success, thanks

to everyone who attended. Highlights included a tribute to Jim Farrell, with a

commemorative tankard presented on behalf of all the players in the CCSC.

Thank you Jim! This year’s winner's, North Ryde, were

presented with their trophy by Jim Farrell.

David Turner kindly donated to the RACA the set of billiard balls used by Walter

Lindrum in making his world record highest break in 1930.

Corks 'n'' Forks Annual Black Tie Henschke Dinner

Bookings are now open for Corks ‘n’ Forks’ final event for the year – a highlight dinner featuring the wonderful and sometimes hard to find wines from Henschke. In his Australian Wine Companion James Halliday describes Henschke as the unchallenged best medium sized red wine producer in Australia.The Henschke family has been making wine since 1862, when Johann Christian Henschke planted a vineyard on his small farming property at Keyneton in South Australia’s Eden Valley. Since 1980 all Henschke wines have been crafted by fifth generation winemaker Stephen Henschke and his viticulturist wife Prue from their vineyards in the Barossa and Eden Valleys and Adelaide Hills.

The dinner will feature a menu specially crafted by Executive Chef Scott Thompson and his team matched to 6 specially chosen Henschke wines that include the much sought after, exclusive and beautifully perfumed 2010 Cyril Cabernet Sauvignon/Merlot. This year’s dress code will again be optional black tie, and the theme for the night will be ‘Henschke and the Arts’. There’ll also be an options game.
