Born during the Second World War
Born to Julia Lennonin 1940. His fatherwas a sailor and awayat sea.
He went to live withhis Auntie Mimi aged5 as it was decidedthat she and herhusband would bebetter able to providefor him.

Schooling
John was not veryacademic at schoolalthough he was verygood at art.
His Mum bought him aguitar when he was 15years old.
He formed several bands,
the 1st in 1956 called TheQuarrymen.
He soon invited PaulMcCartney to join.

The name waschanged to TheBeatles

John and Yoko became involved inthe Peace movement
During the late sixtiesthe Hippy Movementevolved, many youngpeople becameinterested inalternative life styles.
The Beatles were partof this, they grew theirhair, went on trips toIndia and talked aboutworld issues.
