6 THE 'TiWENTY-SIXTH ANNUAL SESSION OF THE

The dwelling house has been painte~ inside and out. The other buildings have been painted out-· side. The cabins have had some repair work done on them.

The Lord has blessed us wonderfully! at Camp, materially, but most of all spiritually.· This past summer during ihe first session of ycuth camp there wel''C 32 children who had never been to camp before. They, along with the old timers, were blessed beyond words. During the second Youth Session souls were won to Ghrist by other boyls and girls who wanted to witness and work for Him• Prayer )meetings were held until 2 or 3 o'clock in the mornings. Words cannot express the feeling of those in attendance.

vVe want to thank from the depth of our hearts each of you, who have helped in any way to promote the camp. It is very precious. 1\!ay God bless each of you.

EXECUTIVE BOARD i\IEETING

The Executive Board of the Georgia State Association of Free Will Baptists· is happy to present the following report of its activities for the year beginning Nov. 15, 1961 and ending Nov. 13, 1962. We submit this account of our activities with thanksgiving and gratitude to God and the members of this Georgia State Association for the privilege of serving in this capacity. We have done cur best to follow the leadership of the Holy Spirit, keeping OiUr hearts and minds open to the opporLunities and npeds of the Kingdom Work in general and the Free Will Baptists cause in particular. Our aim has been t'o keep our program Christ-centered and to so regulate our activities as to make the salvation of men and women everywhere our first motive and concern.

'1~e Board held a blief meeting Nov. 15, 1961 for ',he purpose of arranging the changeover in the State Promotional cffice with Brother Mance Cason, the newly elected Promotional Secretary. Satisfactory plans were set up and adopted and the Board adjcurned.

On January1 19, 1962, the Board met in session at Camp l\ft. Bethel. near Ashburn, Georgia. After disposing of routine matters. the question of living quarters ficr the Promotional Secretary was taken up. First attention was given to using the house located on the Camp premises and the members of the Board examined the house to determine the necessary ·repairs and additions to make it suitable fer this purpose. Followin·g this inspection a discussion was entered into relative to buying property in town, inasmuch as the state office was to be located in the residence of the Pormotional Secretary. It was the opinion of all present in the meeting that this would be the course of wisdom. On motion and: second, which was followed by a

• unammous vote, a committee was appointed and given six months in which to lccate suitable property. The committee consisted of Revs. Tom Hamilton, Paul Irvin, James Pelt, 'vith the Moderator and Promotional Secretary to assist as e:x:-offficio members.

. The Board met in called session on Feb. 10, 1962 at Midway Church, Moultrie, Georgia.

After prayer, •led by Bro. Curtis Ray, the business was taken up.

The report of the c0011mittee on investigating and, locating property for the Promotional Secretary's. living quarters and office was given as follows: In light of the responsibility devt>loping upon the special committee designated by the Executive Beard of the Georgia State Association to investigate housing facilities for our Promotional Secretary an~ his office, we have made investigation in three of our towns and as a result we \vish :to recommen'd the purchase of a piece pf which is $7,950.00. The down payment required is $350.00 with monthly payments of approximately ~50•.00, over a period of 30 years.

20 THE TWENTY-SIXTH ANNUAL SESSION OF THE

Secretary one year ago, I immediately assumed the responsibility· of promoting all the causes being sponsored by the Georgia State Asso.cia,ion. It has been most gratifying to observe the willingness on the part of our people in all areas of the State to be cooperat~ve all! every effort of promoting the Cause we love .

The spreading of the Gospel, with emphasis on reaching the lost with the message that "Jesus Saves" has always met with opposition. rThe past year has been no exception, for there has been certain elements in some areas which disturb the growth and progress of the work which we feel was assigned to us when the great Commission was given by our Lord, "Go ye into all the world and preach the Gospel."

II feel quite sure that when you will have had time to obs.erve the following comparative and financial report that you will note that the Lord has wonderfully blessed in most all areas of our endeavors.

In addition to carrying on the work of the office I have visited, a number cf churches, and attended district meetings in each Association in the interest of our denominational work. Altogether, it has been a very busy year and we are looking forward to doing even more during the ensuing year, divine providence permitting .

To all of you I would like to express .my sincere appreciation, for the accomplishments through the Promotional Department last Y·ear has been a cooperative effort as you have stood with us both in prayer and support. 1\fy appreciation also to the members of the Executive Committee who have freely given of their time and effort to assist me in the work.

24 THE TWENTY-SIXTH ANNUAL SESSION OF THE

its chairman called the Executive Committee into session for · the nineteenth day of January., 1962 at Camp Mt. Bethel. It was sug.. gested that members of your camp board be asked to associate in this meeting, which they graciously did. Study from everyt angle revealed the fact that the status was considerably different than it had been assumed relative to plans for housing the state office, the Promotional Secretary and his family, in the Caretaker's, building. This brought the group face to face with unforeseen problems-matters relating to housing, salary, Secretary's Aid, supplies, travel and. mailing; along with responsibility for protection of denominational interests and assets. There was also the problem as to provisions for the spiritual life of the Promotional Secretary's familyr, with no chUl'Ch within reach od" their walking ability from the Camp. Too, we were confronted with the fact that we had no law protection for :money assets flowing int'o the office from day to day.

Finally, we were informed that during encampments in the previous summer all facilities at the camp were overtaxed, inclu.ding the house we had loosly1 thought of setting up our headquarters in. Further information was brought to our attention as to the purpose fol' which the house was built; that of a caretaker, and no doubt all will agree that our Promotional Secretary cannot do the job assigned him and serve as a caretaker too. Finally, we were face,d with conf;iderable out~ay financially in converting and construction were the denomination to set up its office at the Camp.

Out of such honest investigations, and findings, it was moved that there be an investigation committee apipointed, which resulted in the d£signation of Brothers Hamilton, Pelt and Irvin as committeemen, with Davidson to advise in his ex-officio capa, city and CasOJli to be added for wisdom's sake. This committee was to investigate possibilities of a rental proposition with option to buy in one of our representative towns, fairly located for convenience to our people. Such investigations were made in a number of towns, but no rental possibilities showed up. However, a prospect in a goocl, locaticn in Moultrie was presented, which ~howed to be gocd economy in light of possible rentals. The offer was made in such a way that unanimous consent was given fol' n,egotiation, hence the o~ening of such. It turned out that ihy following directions of men who were well versed in the real estate business we could have this prop~rty 'vith !monthly payments a bit' minus $50.00. It is true that a small down paymnet of $300.00 associated the agreement. The title to thi,s property is duly made (under direction of business authorities). to the Georgia State Asscciation of Free Will Baptists.

Almost continuous alerted activity has been an order of members of the Executive Committee, which you democratically chose a year ago, in ord,er to find best ways and means for promotion of our cause. Two regular meeting times have been arranged for January

and September, aside from the session just before the State Body

is called for dealing with final matters. Quite a bit of work has been

done through the effort of chosen committeemen within our group,

and. the Moderator, the Assistant 1\Iodemtor and the Promotional Secretary have been in constant contact with each other for the best interest of our common cause. One mass prayer meeting was called ;to convene just before the September meeting of the, Executive Committee, the purpos.e of which was experiencing a knitting of our hearts together with the Lord's and one another. Reports of misunderstandings of the purpose came in, but, we were very keenly conscious, of its blessings as we met in our September session of the committee the day following the night prayer session.

Not everything we might have purposed has. been realized through our unrelenting ef'fcrts, however, I wish personally to vouch for my faith in the good purpose in the hearts of the brethren whom you chose as your Executive Committee. ·We plead for a bit of confidence in expression, for fervent prayers to as,cend to our heavenly Father, for tmitYJ in Christian fellowship and ded, ication in concerted efforts that we may get on with the greatest task ever assigned to mankind.
