Black
LightShow
On December 12, 2012, a
group of 50 participants and staff went to Cobourg East Northumberland Secondary School to
see a Black Light Show performed by the LLS Drama class.
Our favourite part of the show was the Mr. Bean skit, which caused laughs and roars amongst
the crowd. Special thanks go to the diner staff and Angie for the packed lunches and beverages
provided; it was tasty! We would also like to thank Mrs. Stone and her class for inviting us again
this year. It is always a great time and experience!

QVSS Christmas Bash!
On December 20, 2012, QVSS held its annual Christmas party. Everyone started their day by
enjoying coffee and Tim bits upon their arrival. There were crafts, a Christmas movie andactivities throughout the morning that everyone seemed to enjoy doing. We enjoyed a
beautiful turkey dinner for lunch that was prepared by the diner staff and direct care staff. It
was delicious! According to Phil, John and Margaret, it was their favorite part of the day.
After lunch, we congregated to the large recreation room to listen, sing and dance to the
Heartland band. They performed Christmas carols and rockn roll tunes in their country style.
Crafts, a Christmas movie and activities carried on in the small recreation room for those who
needed a quiet place to be.
Santa made his appearance in the afternoon, sitting beside the Christmas tree, having photos
taken with everyone. The entire day was a jolly-good-time!

Angie Walsh, the supervisor of Reds Diner had this to say about the day;
All went very smooth. The staff was very busy helping to provide excitement to all
participants. A special thanks goes to the Reds diner staff who spent all week preparing for our
scrumptious Christmas lunch. They all did a wonderful job!
A Red, Red Rose
O my luve's like a red, red rose.
That's newly sprung in June;
O my luve's like a melodie
That's sweetly play'd in tune.
As fair art thou, my bonnie lass,
So deep in luve am I;
And I will love thee still, my Dear,
Till a'the seas gang dry.
Till a' the seas gang dry, my Dear,
And the rocks melt wi' the sun:
I will luve thee still, my Dear,
While the sands o'life shall run.
And fare thee weel my only Luve! And fare thee weel a while!
And I will come again, my Luve,
Tho' it were ten thousand mile!

Skyfall
(Spoiler Alert: The following review has extremely descriptive information aboutthe movie and should not be read if you intend to watch it)
The movie Skyfall, starring Daniel Craig as
James Bond and Judy Dench as M, is action
packed from the start. It starts with Bond on the
back of a motorcycle chasing the bad guy. The
chase leads both of them to a train. Bond gets in
a bulldozer and takes out the roof of the train-car. He then climbs up on the roof of the next
train-car where a fist fight ensues. During the
fight, a female sniper who is aiming for the bad
guy, shoots Bond accidentally, causing him to fall
off the train bridge and into the water below.
Later on, Bond and M are being followed by a man who wants to kill them both.
They head for an old farmhouse where Bond grew up as a kid. The man that has
chased them has regrouped with many men and weapons. Bond and M find theowner of the house and they go down a secret tunnel under the house and the
gun-play and killing ensues. The fight ends with M dead and Bond is the only
survivor out of everyone.
We both rate this movie a 5 out of 5 *****
We had to go twice before seeing it as it was sold out the first time. It was a huge
seller at the box-office, selling hundreds of millions of dollars in ticket sales. We
both conquer that this was Daniel Craigs best Bond movie yet. It was Bonds 50th
Anniversary in 2012 and in commemoration, they released a 22-movie box-set
($179.99 plus tax) with a space left for the Skyfall movie. It comes out for rent or
to own on February 12, 2013.
Please note; Phil French has purchased the box set and says its worth every penny!!!

Fire SafetyBy Kevin Devries
What can catch on fire? Basically everything that surrounds you. If by chance your clothes
were to catch on fire, you should stop, drop and roll, smothering the flames. Remember toalways be safe. If a fire is too big, get out and call 911 immediately. People (you) are more
important than personal things. Here are some more fire safety tips that everyone should
know, especially at this time of year!
Make sure all family members know what to do in the event of a fire. Draw a floor plan with atleast two ways of escaping every room. Make a drawing for each floor. Dimensions do not need
to be correct. Make sure the plan shows important details: stairs, hallways and windows that
can be used as fire escape routes.
Test windows and doorsdo they open easy enough? Are they wide enough. Or tall enough?
Choose a safe meeting place outside the house.
Practice alerting other members. It is a good idea to keep a bell and flashlight in each bedroom.
Conduct a family meeting and discuss the following topics:
Always sleep with the bedroom doors closed. This will keep deadly heat and smoke
out of bedrooms, giving you additional time to escape.
Find a way for everyone to sound a family alarm. Yelling, pounding on walls,
whistles, etc. Practice yelling "FIRE!"
In a fire, time is critical. Don't waste time getting dressed, don't search for pets or
valuables. Just get out!
Roll out of bed. Stay low. One breath of smoke or gases may be enough to kill.

Practice evacuating the building blindfolded. In a real fire situation, the amount of smoke
generated by a fire most likely will make it difficult to see.
Practice staying low to the ground when escaping.
Feel all doors before opening them. If a door is hot, get out another way.
Learn to stop, drop to the ground, roll if clothes catch fire.
Install smoke detectors
Check smoke detectors once a month and change the batteries at least once a year. Smoke
detectors sense abnormal amounts of smoke or invisible combustion gases in the air. They candetect both smoldering and burning fires. At least one smoke detector should be installed on
every level of a structure. Purchase smoke detectors labeled by the Underwriters Laboratories
(UL) or Factory Mutual (FM).
Post emergency numbers near telephones.
Be aware that if a fire threatens your home, you should not place the call to emergency services
from inside the home. It is better to get out and place the call to fire authorities from a safe
location outside the home.
After a fire emergency
Give first aid where appropriate. Seriously injured victims should be transported to professional
medical help immediately. Stay out of the damaged building. Return only when fire authorities
say it is safe.

13/15
Make sure you have a safe fire escape method for all situations
You may have installed a very expensive home security system. But if you cannot escape the
burning structure you have a false level of confidence.
Space Heaters Need Space
Keep portable and space heaters at least 3 feet from anything that may burn. Never leave
heaters on when you leave home or go to sleep. Children and pets should always be kept away
from them.
Smokers Need To Be Extra Careful
Never smoke in bed or when you are sleepy. Carelessly discarded cigarettes are a leading cause
of fire deaths..
Be Careful Cooking
Keep cooking areas clear of combustibles and wear short or tight-fitting sleeves when you cook.
Keep the handles of your pots turned inward so they do not over-hang the stove. If grease
catches fire, carefully slide a lid over the pan and smother the flames, then turn off the burner.
Matches and Lighters are DangerousIn the hands of a child, matches and lighters can be deadly! Store them where kids can't reach
them, preferably in a locked area. Teach children that matches and lighters are "tools" and
should only be used by adults.
Use Electricity Safely
If an appliance smokes or has an unusual smell, unplug it immediately and have it repaired.
Replace frayed or cracked electrical cords and don't overload extension cords. They should not
be run under rugs. Never tamper with the fuse box or use the improper size fuse.

LOL; by Rob Decaire
At the cocktail party, one woman said to another, "Aren't you wearing your
wedding ring on the wrong finger? The other replied, "Yes I am, I married
the wrong man."
"Dad, I was away for a week. Yesterday I sent a fax to my wife saying that
I'd be home that night; and when I got home I found my
wife in another man's arms. Why, dad? Tell me why!"
Dad kept silent for a few minutes, then coolly said, "Maybe, son, she didn't
get the fax."
A wife, one evening, drew her husband's attention to the couple
next door and
said, "Do you see that couple? How devoted they are? He kisses
her every time they meet. Why don't you do that?"
"I would love to." Replied the husband. "But I don't know her
well enough."
Why is it good that there are female astronauts? Because if the crew gets lost,
at least the woman will ask for directions.
Marriage is a three ring circus: Engagement ring, wedding ring, suffering.
My girlfriend told me I should be more affectionate. So I got two girlfriends.
Men who have pierced ears are better prepared for marriage. They've experienced pain and
bought jewelry.
Marriage is the only sport in which the trapped animal has to buy the license.

After just a few years of marriage, filled with constant arguments, a young man and his wife
decided the only way to save their marriage was to try counseling. They had been at each
other's throat for some time and felt that this was their last straw. When they arrived at the
counselor's office, the counselor jumped right in and opened the floor for discussion.
"What seems to be the problem?" Immediately, the husband held his long face down withoutanything to say. On the other hand, the wife began talking 90 miles an hour describing all the
wrongs within their marriage. After 5 - - 10 - - 15 minutes of listening to the wife, the
counselor went over to her, picked her up by her shoulders, kissed her passionately for
several minutes, and sat her back down. Afterwards, the wife sat there speechless.
He looked over at the husband who was staring in disbelief at what had happened. The
counselor spoke to the husband, "Your wife needs that at least twice a week!"
The husband scratched his head and replied, "I can have her here on Tuesdays and
Thursdays."
An elderly couple came back from a wedding one afternoon and were in a pretty romantic
mood. While sitting on their loveseat, the elderly woman looked at her companion and said,
"I remember when you used to kiss me every chance you had." The old man feeling a bit
obliged leaned over and gave her a peck on the cheek. Then she said, "I also remember when
you used to hold my hand at every opportunity." The old man again feeling obligated reached
over and gently placed his hand on hers. The elderly woman then stated, I also remember
when you used to nibble on my neck and send chills down my spine." This time the old man
had a blank stare on his face and started to get up off the couch. As he began to walk out ofthe living room his wife asked, "Was it something I said? Where are you going?" The old man
looked at her and replied, Im going in the other room to get my teeth!
Knock knock!
Whos there?
Keith!
Keith who?
Keith your hands off of me!
