Stay fit. At QV.Winter is typically known for putting on a few unwanted kilos. Don’t let yourself fall into this trap. Think of winter as ‘pre season’. It’s the time to prepare your body for spring – it takes three months to see real results in your body from exercise and lifestyle change. So, start now!

Fitness First Platinum is located on QV Terrace, level three. Ph: 1300 557 799

Winter game plan.1. Set goalsMake sure they’re specific and can be achieved in 3 months. Write your goal down and read it daily. Seek support from friends, family or a personal trainer. Consider obstacles you may run into along the way and devise a plan to overcome these.

2. Join a gymAvoid the cold wet weather by training indoors. The gym can be a very motivating and inspiring environment. Surround yourself with people who are also committed to their health and fitness.

3. No excuses!Don’t wait for perfect conditions to achieve your fitness goals. Make a commitment to yourself, your health, wellbeing and happiness. Commit to nutritious food and regular exercise no matter what the conditions are outside.

Page 19: QV magazine

4. Eat cleanStock up on fresh food! Opt for free range meats, free range eggs and vegetables. Organic is always best. Not only will these foods keep you on track to achieving your goals, they’ll also help fight off colds and flu. Plan your meals in advance. Eat for fuel, not for warmth or comfort.

5. Stay hydratedSome points to remember:• The body often confuses thirst

with hunger

• Heaters will dehydrate your body fast• Water also helps to flush toxins out of

your system and is vital for health and brain function

• Drink water at room temperature – it’s absorbed faster by the body• Coffee and hot chocolate is not a substitute for water. Opt for herbal teas or warm water with a squeeze of fresh lemon instead

6. Turn off the heaterGenerate your own heat by staying active. Exercise daily and limit your time in front of the TV. If you do watch TV, try doing 10 push ups during each ad break. 7. Take a breakRecharge the batteries by taking a short holiday. Your destination should be somewhere warm and relaxing. Start planning your holiday now. Time away from your normal routine can help to break bad habits and will give you something to work towards.
