• Financial hardship – family receives Centrelink; parents unemployed or on low income; limited money for books, uniforms, school supplies, excursions etc
• Home environment/responsibilities – family conflict, abuse, illness/death of family member, additional responsibilities to assist your family
• English language – from a country where English is NOT medium of instruction; family does not speak English at home; new to Australia and experiencing language issues (e.g. refugee)
• Disability or personal illness – chronic illness or accident which have led to extended time away from school; illness/disability for which provisions have not been made at school
• Educational disruption – natural disasters; regional/remote school; change of school in senior years; bullying; family breakdown; homelessness
