Apply through the Queensland Tertiary Admissions Centre (QTAC):• make the most of your six preferences• Course cut-offs do change each year• Check requirements /prerequisites• seek advice about courses to use as
upgrading options.

All universities have some kind of special entry programs. Check with each uni.
– Elite athletes– Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islanders– Financial hardship
QTAC’s EAS (Educational Access Scheme) aims to help applicants who have experienced difficult circumstances that have negatively impacted on their studies.

Common issues students may have experienced include:
• Financial hardship – family receives Centrelink; parents unemployed or on low income; limited money for books, uniforms, school supplies, excursions etc
• Home environment/responsibilities – family conflict, abuse, illness/death of family member, additional responsibilities to assist your family
• English language – from a country where English is NOT medium of instruction; family does not speak English at home; new to Australia and experiencing language issues (e.g. refugee)
• Disability or personal illness – chronic illness or accident which have led to extended time away from school; illness/disability for which provisions have not been made at school
• Educational disruption – natural disasters; regional/remote school; change of school in senior years; bullying; family breakdown; homelessness

• Examples of documentation include– Centrelink or tax information– Medical or health professional support– School staff supporting statement– Other community support worker e.g. social
worker– A personal statement from you

What can you do if you don’t get the OP/Rank required for your dream course?
• we recommend not to repeat Year 12• study another course at uni for one year
full time• enrol in a dual TAFE/uni award• study at another institution at a degree,
diploma or advanced diploma level.

1 year of bachelor degree studies• with a passing grade = Rank 93 (OP 5)
A completed advanced diploma• with a passing grade
= Rank 93 (OP 5) at QUT or 91 (OP 5/6) at other unis
A completed diploma• with a passing grade
= Rank 87 (OP 7) at QUT or 82 (OP 9) at other unis
An AQF certificate IV• Completed = Rank 74 (OP 12)
An AQF certificate III • Completed = Rank 68 (OP 15)
NOTE:• Ask your preferred uni about upgrading• Read the footnotes, some institutions award different
ranks• Don’t forget – prerequisites must still be met!

Courses you really want, even if your chance of gaining entry is not assured.
Less competitive courses that provide another way to your chosen career or to a second choice career. They can be used to upgrade to your ‘ideal’ course.
Courses you are prepared to do if you miss out on all others. They should be courses that in the past have been easy to get into. They can help you upgrade.

The applicant can ‘conditionally accept’ this offer and rearrange their preferences so they will be considered for the courses they really want, which are offered in January.
