are remembered for their words.

Did you know that 50 years ago some of your friends would not be in the same school with you because they had a different color skin? They would not be allowed to eat in restaurants with you, or sit anywhere they wanted to sit on a bus. It was against the law.

Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. knew that everyone should be treated fairly. He made many famous speeches to try to change the laws. He told people they should not fight to solve problems. He said they should use peace.

In his most famous speech Dr. King said, “I have a dream, that one day, little black boys and black girls will be able to join hands with little white boys and little white girls as sisters and brothers.”

Many people liked him as a leader. He thought it was important to help others. He worked hard for his country. He told people that they should work hard for their country, too.
