Shouting louder does not help if the truth has been lost.

    Ravi Zacharias (11)

This sentence really struck me because I will soon be an educator trying to help

youth sort through the ideas that they grab hold of. I remember in my own high school,

there is always the group of students who will argue anything as long as they are

victorious in the argument. It amazed me that debates would honestly get to, well lets

just nuke them all before one side would stop and realize how stupid the debate had

become. All truth and reason had been thrown out for the sake of being right. This

quote lies in the section about theory as one of the three levels of establishing our

convictions. This theory that he explains as application of the laws of logic and the

advancement of the argument through sound reasoning (Zacharias 14) gives way to

the next two levels, the arts and kitchen table talk.

Another interesting quote in the theory level is about violence. It took me a while

to really understand what that means. After much searching, it seems to be saying that

when violence happens out of reason or logic it is far worse for humanity than crimes of

passion. This was a tactic, not necessarily done out of emotion or passion. This crime

threw the world into fear of terrorist attacks, a much broader case of reason than if it

had been done in passion. Reason means there has to be tactic, strategy, and not just

intense hatred. This is what scares most people about the terrorism; they know that a plot

could be formed at that very moment that would end their life.

History has shown that crimes of logic can be more catastrophic

for humanity than crimes of passion.
