Starting with a master bedroom in a loft residence
that was originally a church, the room presented an architectural
design challenge.
Design Challenge
The room has a small footprint
and soaring ceilings, with one wall dominated
by the original church features.
The new construction was out-of-balance and sterile
in comparison.

Intentional in Design
The intent of the design was to honor and compliment the existing millwork, plaster
walls, and large stained glass windows.
Intentional in Design
The most impressive addition to this project was the brick wall
treatment, which helped create a visual balance while adding a
dramatic element to the room.
Intentional in Design
The warmth of the brick, along with the new cork plank flooring, transformed the look and feeling
of the room.

Timeless furnishings, art and lighting
provide the finishing touches, leaving the client thrilled
with the results.
This design of this master bedroom suite
is now worthy of its character.
Client needs/wants: 1. Eliminate the sterile, new construction feeling. 2. Replace the wall-to-wall carpet. 3. Address the morning light with a window treatment. 4. Add new furniture, bedding and jewelry storage. 5. Create a comfortable and stylish bedroom to be proud of, without spending a fortune.
Designer needs/wants: 1. An amazing and trusting client. 2. A team of contractors, handyman, vendors, etc.
3. An out-of-state showroom with white glove delivery.
4. My wonderful design assistant.
5. A celebration with a bottle of wine after the install.

How client needs/wants were met:
The used brick wall balances and adds character to the space.
New cork plank flooring replaced the carpeting. The dark color was chosen to ground the space.
A motorized honeycomb shade was installed and covered by a custom wood valance.
How client needs/wants were met:
A mix of classic and traditional furnishings were chosen within the same furniture family to avoid looking like a “set” was purchased.
A large (7’x4’) beveled, distressed floor mirror features a door to a hidden felt-lined jewelry compartment.
The lavender and taupe bedding is both masculine and feminine while complimenting the colors in the stained glass windows.
Mercury glass lamps, an area rug, and artwork finish the room with an elevated elegance.
This master suite bedroom was delivered under budget (at $17,296.73)and is now welcoming and relaxing while remaining true to the architecture.

AWARDS CEREMONY January 24, 2014

Obstacles overcome:
Designer from La Quinta, CA handles out-of-state design and remodel project in Seattle, WA with my client living in-residence.
Project was handled mostly through emails and phone correspondence
after only one 24-hour visit by designer, before returning to install furnishings and to complete the finishing touches – months later.
All furnishings and décor were selected, purchased and shipped directly to client.
Photo shoot required special attention to keep a new puppy out of the shot. I promise, this little guy was only in the “time-out tub” for 2 minutes!
THANK YOU!
