Who is he? Quincy Delight Jones, Jr. (March 1933) is an American music impresario, conductor,

record producer, musical arranger, Academy Award-winning film composer and trumpeter.

The list of additional titles he has garnered includes: stage performer, composer, arranger, conductor, instrumentalist, actor, record producer, motion picture and television producer, record company executive, magazine publisher and social activist.

Why is he important?

His activism began in the 60s with his support of Dr. MLK. He is one of the founders of the Institute for Black American Music.

For many years he has worked on closely with Bono on a number of philanthropic issues.

In 2004, Jones helped launch the “We Are the Future” project, which gives children in poor and conflict-ridden areas a chance to live their childhoods and develop a sense of hope. The WAF I backed by the World Bank, The UN, and other major companies.

He has been acclaimed by Harvard University school of music as well the school of public health. Berklee College of Music considers Jones its most successful alumnus, Arnold Schwarzenegger and First Lady Maria Shriver announced that Jones will be inducted into the California Hall of Fame. He has also received an honorary doctorate degree for his contributions to music and entertainment.

Along with numerous film scores he has composed including Stephen Spillberg’s “The Color Purple,” the hit song from Austin Powers, a slough of Quentin Tarrantino films, Jones continues to be a prowess in the music industry.
