featured artist workshopsACCIDENTAL LANDSCAPES “BEACHES”All levels, six-hour workshop, sewing machine required, Fee: $76Here is an introduction to creating landscapes “accidentally” using Karen’s layered top stitching technique. These little beach scenes are quick and easy to make, no templates, not fuss - just free form rotary cutting and top stitched edges. Personalize your beach by adding collage details like a dune fence, beach grass, shells, sailboats, beach chairs, umbrellas, lighthouses, photo transfers, etc. Beach scene measures approximately 8 x 12 inches (without borders). Pattern fee of $7 payable to instructor in class. Fabric Kits are available for $20 and may be reserved for workshop participants by contacting the instructor at [email protected] or 860-927-4201.Instructor: Karen Eckmeier, min 10, max 20.Wednesday, March 6, 2019, 9:30 am to 4:30 pm

LARGE LOGSAll levels, six-hour workshop, sewing machine required, Fee: $76Let’s start with the traditional Log Cabin block and feature a fun image in the center instead of the classic red square. Select a large print and some lights and darks to coordinate with it and you are on your way to building some very sassy blocks with top stitched curves and perky little triangles. Size of table runner/wall hanging: 13½ x 48 inches. Five log blocks make a great table runner and four blocks are perfect for a table topper or bag. If you want to make a large quilt bring more fabric and continue making blocks.Instructor: Karen Eckmeier, min 10, max 20.Thursday, March 7, 2019, 9:30 am to 4:30 pm

COLOR TWISTS & LEAVESAll levels, six-hour workshop, sewing machine required, Fee: $76Ease into gentle free-form top stitched curves in this technique and design workshop. We will make abstract flowers that twist round and round and pairs of Layered Leaves embellished with yarn. Then experiment with different combinations to see which design layouts appeal best to you for making your choice of a wall hanging, table runner, table topper, a bag or the beginnings of a quilt top.Instructor: Karen Eckmeier, min 10, max 20.Friday, March 8, 2019, 9:30 am to 4:30 pm

QUILTED WAVES VESTAll levels, six-hour workshop, sewing machine required, Fee: $76It’s all about the waves! Get into the flow with Karen’s free-form top stitched curves and angles to create this great open front vest. The secret is a lightweight sweatshirt pattern base for simple assembly. The sweatshirt provides just the right amount of loft for a “quilted-look” after the stitching and the smooth side becomes an easy matching lining. You choose the length to fit your style. Wearable Waves book is required for class. If you do not already have it, it can be purchased in class for $24. Instructor: Karen Eckmeier, min 10, max 20.Saturday, March 9, 2019, 9:30 am to 4:30 pm

COLLAGE WORKSHOP “HAPPY VILLAGES”All levels, six-hour workshop, sewing machine optional, Fee: $76Explore the freedom of fabric collage! Book highly recommended: Happy Villages (fee of $22 payable to instructor in class or purchase ahead of time). Sewing machines are optional for this class. Most students prefer to spend the time leisurely collaging, however for those of you that work quickly, bring your machines for the end of the day.Instructor: Karen Eckmeier, min 10, max 20.Sunday, March 10, 2019, 9:30 am to 4:30 pm

Diamonds in the SkyIntermediate level, one-day workshop, sewing machine required, Fee: $48Diamonds in the Sky is a brilliant high-contrast quilt. Deb Tucker’s Corner Beam blocks are used throughout the design to build an alternating diamond illusion that simply radiates beauty. Created equally well with a medley or fat quarters for the stars, the block suits a collection of six-inch strips or scraps of bright fabric you may already own. Before you assemble your blocks, see not only the setting for Diamonds in the Sky, but for a host of other patterns as well, using these same tools. Any way you make it, Diamonds in the Sky is a dynamite, dramatic, stash-buster project. Tool and pattern available for sale in class if not purchased previously. The Corner Beam tool from Studio 180 Design is $22.50 and the Diamonds in the Sky patter is $11.50. Instructor: Beth Sidley, min 7, max 18Sunday, February 24, 2019, 9:30 am to 4:30 pm
