Faced with environmental issues on a daily basis, Quiksilver and Roxy riders play an important role, either personally or with the Groups backing, actively supporting its long-standing efforts to preservethe mountain and marine environments that represent our playgrounds.

Quiksilver is fortunate to have its ambassadors, acting as spokespeople for the groups commitment on

the ground. These athletes take part in events aimed at raising funds for other projects. They also con-tribute to projects run in collaboration with Quiksilver. Every season, Mathieu Crepel and Kjersti Buaastry their hand at designing, as they join forces with our teams to develop pro-models in recycled polyes-ter, which they then wear in snowboarding competitions all over the world.

On March 24th, more than 600 volunteers gathered at 16

sites in nine regions to cleanup and restore beaches and

    coastal areas throughout Chile.

In an unprecedented day of cleanups, volunteers removed

nearly 9,000 pounds of trash and debris (more than 500

bags), cleaning and restoring beaches, river mouths, and

estuaries along more than 15 miles of Chilean coastline.

Following the devastating earthquake-tsunami of 2010,

coastal communities throughout Chile are still rebuilding to

this day, which also means continuing to care for t he coast

    and ocean.

    Save The Waves

The Quiksilver Foundation coordinated efforts on Saturday,

September 10th to work with the City of Long Beach, NY, the

Long Beach High School Surf Team, and other volunteers

to nally cleanup the Magnolia Playground, which sat only

2 blocks away from the main event site of the Quiksilver Pro

    NY 2011.

That playground has long been a favorite of parents, chil-

dren, and those both visiting and living in the community.

When Irene hit, the playgrounds seawall was destroyed, and sand and rubble covered everything. With the help of

the Quiksilver Foundation and of course the kindness of

many of this Citys citizens, the park was greatly improved.

The Quiksilver Foundation has been in touch with a number

of different NGOs (non-governmental agencies) trying to un-

derstand and pinpoint the best way to lend a hand.

We have made a cash donation to a great group called The

Gulf Restoration Network. Their mission is to unite and em-power people to protect and restore the natural resources of

the Gulf Region for future generations.

Currently their staff and volunteer base have been out in

both boats and planes to survey the extent of the spill and

record real-time data that is then being used to monitor ar-

26th May, with the support of the Quiksilver Foundation. The SAS educa-

tion team will be visiting locations from Mablethorpe to Newcastle, visiting

schools and colleges along the way.

SAS educational sessions provide up-to-date infor-

mation and local actions that can be taken by the

students in tackling marine pollution, complement-

ing the cross-curricular syllabus (programme pluri-

disciplinaire) at primary and secondary levels. SAS

believes that inspiring young people and providing them with the tools to

help protect our oceans, waves and beaches, will help create a new gen-

    eration of environmental ambassadors.

Dominic Ferris, SAS Campaigns & Education Ofcer says: Through our

educational programme we hope to share the beauty and complexity of

our marine environments, and give students and the wider community the

inspiration, knowledge and tools to help protect the UKs precious waves,

    oceans and beaches.

SASs school presentation is delivered in cl

rooms, assemblies and even on beaches, a

    active environmental board game, Marineo

The lessons cover all of SASs latest initiativ

including campaigns on sewage pollution, marine litter, climate chtoxic chemicals, shipping and wave protection.

positive feedback from schools across the

    country and has already communicated

the importance of protecting UK beaches

    to thousands of students nationwide.

    Entry 6 On the road toAnambe24.01.2012 - 8.15 am

After spending the night in a hotel we continue the drive out toAnambe. The further we go the atter it is and the less each townhas, and the more confused looks we get when the local people seeus. Ive been to other third world parts of the world and none hadsuch a welcoming warming feeling like the one I got here in Senegal!

    Entry 7 Arriving atAnambe24.01.2012 - 3.30pm

When we arrived to the village, we got greeted with a welcom-ing ceremony that was t for kings! Music, colour, air, rhythm, dance and smiles bigger than the sun. We were introduced to theelders and leaders of the surrounding villages who are all involved inthe project, and the chief gave us a welcoming speech with a power-ful statement that summed up the whole reason we were there. Avillage without a purpose is a dying village.

    Entry 8 Ceremony at

Anambe24/01/2012 - 6.00pmAfter the ceremony, everyone continued to celebrate our arrival withmusic and dance, good food and laughs. The kids almost tore my

dress off in an effort to grab a lollipop from the jar I was holding uphigh! They then all continued to dance with each other and draggingAlain, Tom and myself into each dance circle. I couldnt gure outwhether they were laughing at my dancing or just me in general. A tallblonde, uncoordinated beach girl. I fell in love with the way they alldanced. You could see the music owing through their entire bodies.Such a simple pleasure. All you need is a beat.

Stphanie Gilmore ( 4x Surng World Champion), Alain Riou (Pro Surfer) &Tom Frager (singer) , 3 major ambassadors of the Quiksilver Foundation arevisiting the Anambe village in Senegal from 18 to 28 January.
