From this questionnaire we have seen that most people watch

documentaries late evening and not in the morning or at lunch time. From this we have made the decision to

schedule our documentary late evening.

Q5. How often do you watch documentaries?

Never2-3 a month1 a fortnight1aweek

We asked this question to get an idea on how often people watch documentaries. We found that 2 people never watch documentaries, 15 watch 2-3 a month, 6 watch 1 a fortnight and 7 people watch 1 a week. The data we collected shows that the majority of people watch 2-3 documentaries a month. This data shows that people do watch documentaries and as our questionnaire was answered by mainly 16-18 year olds it shows that our target audience do watch documentaries.

Q6. What type of documentaries interest you the most?

Asking this question was helpful to know what topic of documentaries people enjoy watching the most. Results show that from our target audience; 7 people like science based documentaries, 5 like history, 8 enjoy watching lifestyle and 2 like animal documentary. Smoking is a lifestyle choice so as the majority chose lifestyle it confirms that our target audience is interested in learning about their lifestyle choices which could be the choice of smoking.

Q7. What channel do you watch the most?

BBC1BBC3Channel 4itv1

The most watched TV channel from our results is channel four. 14 people said they watch channel four the most, 4 people said BBC1, 3 people said BBC3 and 9 people said itv1. From our results we can see that we should either put our documentary on either channel four or itv1 as then its most likely to be watched by more people.

Q8. Do you smoke?

Do you smoke?

Do you smoke? Majority of people we asked said that they didn't smoke however there was a fair amount who said they did. This shows us that there is a wide variation amongst our target audience on whether they smoke or not. This shows us that we are informing the target audience on smoking for the people who do and don't meaning that we need to include a wide spread of information. We will be informing the people who do smoke on the dangers to smoking and warning off the ones who don't keeping the idea that its never good to take up smoking.

Q9. If yes to previous question then how many do you smoke a day?

We asked this question to give a general idea if people do smoke then are they heavy smokers or not, this will help us in knowing the content we can put in our documentary. From the graph we can see that the average cigarettes smoked a day was 5-10 then followed by 1 to 2. From this we can use the data that average people smoke 5 to 10 cigarettes and in our documentary we could include the different risk factors depending on how many cigarettes smoked per day.

Q10. Are you aware of the difference between an E-cig and real cigarettes?

With the increasing popularity of E-cigarettes, we asked this question as it could be used as potential content for our documentary. From our graph we can see that most people do not know the difference between normal cigarettes and E-cigarettes, from this data this means that in our documentary we should include the difference between E-ciggs and normal cigarettes to help people become more aware.

From this data we can see that the most common side effects associated with smoking are lung cancer, bad teeth and heart disease. Fewer individuals realised that depression, cervical cancer and induced menopause are also caused by smoking. This shows that in our documentary we could cover content on the less known side effects that smoking can cause.

Q12.How many of these health issues did you know was caused by smoking?

Red; 7

Yellow; 3

Pink; 5Green; 6

Orange; 1

Purple; 5

Blue; 3

In a survey of thirty people the most popular colour was red and

the least popular colour was orange. Interestingly red could be considered a unisex colour yet our feedback was considerably female dominated. In our documentary it

would be best to use the most popular colours in our mise-en-scene in order to appeal to the

public as best as possible.

16 The most popular genre of music was pop. Over half of our pool of

participants were aged 16-18 so pop is evidently the favourite genre of

music among people of that age. As Channel 4 targets mainly young

people and this is the channel we would like our documentary on, pop is probably the best choice of music to use in the documentary to attract

our target audience. As expected alternative was the least popular genre of music, alternative music

tends to have a very niche market so it is not a genre of music we would

use in our documentary.

Question 15Who do you watch telly with?

OwnFamilyFriends

From our questionnaire we have discovered that most people

watch TV with their family. This could mean that people of all ages could potentially be watching our documentary as it could be that someone younger may put it on

and everyone watches it. I feel as though our topic would appeal to all audiences even if it is aimed at a younger adolescence audience.

Q 16.Where do you watch TV?

BedroomOn the GoLivingroomKitchen

It seems as though most people watch TV in their living room with 14 out of 30 people claiming that this is

where the followed y watch TV. This is closely by 11 people saying they

watch TV in their bedroom and only 4 in the kitchen and 1 on the go. This

shows us that people are more likely again to watch with family and a

varied audience to be present. This means we should make our

documentary appropriate for all ages whilst still targeting it specifically at

younger people.
