Questionnaire Findings• A combination of quantitative and qualitative questions were

used in my questionnaire; I used quantitative questions when I needed to easily categories people and be able to see results more clearly and used qualitative questions when allowing people to write what they wish and express their opinion more freely than just ticking a box.

• I asked twenty people (both male and female) eight questions. All twenty participants were between the ages of 16 and 19, so they all fall in my target audience area. I didn’t exclusively ask males or just females because I wish to openly appeal to everyone in the age bracket with my magazine.

Which of these magazines would you be most likely to buy?• It is clear from these results that Billboard is the most popular

music magazine with my target audience. While it wasn’t the majortiy, it was clear that a number of people chose this magazine, perhaps because it appealed to their age group.

• Additionally, it is clear to see that a variety of other magazin es are popular with this age group; he magaziunes I looked at which I thought were similar to Billboard received 50% altogether. This means that there is interest in these magazines on an equal level to Billboard

• Kerrang! was seen as one participants favourite magazine. This is a rock magazine, and it could be the case that this is the minority of people in my target audience who are interested in this genre.

How much would you be willing to purchase a music magazine for?• It is clear from the results that most of my target audience

want a magazine priced around £1-2. This is most likely because the price indicates the magazine is well made but is not excessively expensive. I feel this is an important aspect to have looked at in the magazine, in order to make it feel as realistic as possible.

How often would you buy a music magazine?• 25% would buy the magazine weekly. This shows keen and

fervent interest in the music magazine and demonstrates the enthusiasm shown by my target audience.

• 60% said they would buy the magazine fortnightly. This is the majority and shows an interest on a slightly less enthusiastic level than the previous answer. I feel this best represents my target audience, so I shall feature “every fortnight” on my magazine cover.

• 10% said they would buy it monthly, and 5% (one participant) said just annually. This shows a more apathetic view towards the magazine, but they are not in the majority so I won’t go for these occurences.

How often would you say you read music magazines?• It makes sense that the target audience buy music magazine

whenever possible; it shows that they are interested but it is clear that there is either an issue with money or availability in regards to the magazine. I will bear this in mind and endeavour to make the magazine as interesting as possible to draw as many readers in as possible.

What is your preferred genre of music?• Rock is the most popular genre in my target audience, with

pop a close second. This does not make me want to change my mind in regards to the sub-genre of the magazine because a similar level of interest was shown towards pop. However because of rock’s majority, I aim to make the magazine feel more edgier, to appeal to a wider audience, similarly to Q.

What features draw you in most about music magazines?• The main thing people looked for when it comes to music

magazines are the featured artists in the magazine. As a result of this, I shall use artists that the target audience said they listen to a lot, as they would naturally be more inclined to read about them.

Which artist would you say you listen to most?• While there was no one majority, My Chemical Romance,

Paramore, Lady Gaga and the Killers came out as the most popular artists with my target audience. I shall use this information and possibly feature on or more of these artists somewhere in my magazine (ie. Contents page).
