‘Are you male or female?’• I chose to give out my

questionnaires to both the female and male population as my target population was both genders.

• 10 males and 10 females answered my questionnaire which makes relating their feedback to the publication of my magazine, relatively easy.

Question 1

Page 3: Questionnaire analysis

‘How old are you?’My initial target audience range was 16-25 so I made sure I only gave the majority of my questionnaires to people from that age rage. I also gave a few to people in a higher age range (26-30) and a lower age range (under 16) so that I could compare the data easily. By having 17 questionnaires filed in by people from my target audience, I can easily use the data and ideas that they have given in their questionnaires when it comes to producing the content for my music magazine

Question 2

The results I have obtained will help me in the production of my magazine as the answers given are from people in my target audience; I can produce my rock magazine around the answers they have given as it fits the criteria.

‘What 3 words do you associate with Rock Music?’

Question 3

After receiving the answers for the question: ‘What 3 words do you associate with Rock music?’ I have realized that it was a pretty vague question as I now have a variety of answers, none-of which could really be used as a title. Most of the words given relate to one specific style of rock music (heavy/metal) and my initial ideas didn’t have these as the main genre, mine was more soft rock.

However, it does help with the planning of the language I will use in my magazine as I can incorporate some of the words that were given as answers, into my feature article titles. They can be used as buzz words on my cover page or contents page or even in a puff.

‘How often do you buy a music magazine?’I gave a list of options on my questionnaire under the question ‘How often do you buy a music magazine’. Those options were:• Weekly• Every 2 weeks• Once a month• Less that once a

monthThe data clearly shows that people from my target audience are less likely to commit to buying a rock music magazine more than once month.

So using this data, I am going to produce a monthly magazine as I feel that would appeal to more people of my initial target audience. 10 people stated they only buy a music magazine less than once a month and 1 person said they buy one weekly, because there is such a difference, I am going to stick to producing a monthly magazine.

Question 4

‘How much would you be willing to pay for a rock magazine?’

‘How much would you be willing to pay for a rock magazine?’ Was the question I gave on my questionnaire. 14 people ticked the £2.00-£2.50 box compared to only two people ticking the £4.01+. This shows that a lower price is more appropriate for my target audience.

Question 5

I asked the question specifically about a rock magazine because when I did my market research, I found that different music genres had a different magazine price; pop magazines were cheaper than rock magazines. So I gave price ranges that varied around the prices of my magazine’s I researched. This will help me to pick an average price amongst the answers I received and through the prices I had researched.

‘What music magazines (if any) do you already read?’

Question 6

I asked the question ‘What music magazines (if any) do you already read’ because from the market research I conducted, I found that most of the magazines I looked at had a target population of 16-25 year olds so by asking this question I should have received a large response of answers. However, this proved incorrect at the time. It seems that the people that I chose to give my questionnaires to, don’t actually read many music magazines.

Saying that though, three of the music magazines that I did for my market research was given as an answer which clarifies that I have conducted correct market research. If I wanted to get a better set of results to justify my market research, I would have needed to give my questionnaires to a bigger sample of people. The result I have got give a variety of music genre magazines but do include some from my specific genre I had initially planned on doing, rock.

‘If you wrote at least one answer to question 6, please state what you like about those magazines’

Question 7

Due to not getting many answers for question 6, I then received fewer answers to question 7. Looking back on this question, I feel that I could have linked it on to the bottom of question 6 rather than making it a separate question altogether. It is however, a relevant question because it helps with my planning for the content of my music magazine

‘What kind of regular content would you expect to appear in a rock magazine?’

Question 8

I wrote this question as a multiple choice question using options that I acquired from my market research. The four options I gave: CD reviews, Tour dates, Song of the week and Letters page were all regular content that appeared in at least 3 of the magazines I researched.

‘What kind of feature content would you expect to appear in a rock magazine?’

Question 9

I asked this question in a multiple choice format because I felt that these options were the most important features from the research I conducted. This then helped me narrow down which features I need to make my main focus. If I were to have given the audience the opportunity to write down their own ideas, I may have received too many ideas to incorporate.

Posters/pullouts and interviews seem to be the most important features on a rock magazine according to people from my target audience. This means that I will ensure to include things such as posters in my regular content and I will also make sure that my feature articles are of a high standard and include bands/artists relevant to the genre of music.

‘Who is your favourite band?’

Question 10

This question had a wide variety of responses and also included bands from multiple genres. If I were to craft this question so that it related more to my music magazine purpose I would rewrite the question asking who their favourite ‘rock’ band was.

I can still use some of this data however, as a few of the bands mentioned are rock bands. I can use these particular bands in my feature articles and even regular content such as: New albums or singles. You me at Six was the most popular answer given which is beneficial for me when planning my content as You me at Six is a indie/ soft rock band so I can include them into my content.

‘Who is your favourite solo artist?’

Question 11

This question received similar styled answers to question 10 in a sense that many artists from different genres were given This data is hard to use as it doesn’t really relate to the content I would be using in my rock magazine. I decided to not use a multiple choice styled question as I felt this was a question that required the audiences own opinion.

However, as stated before I could still have got honest opinions if I had crafted he question so that I related it to rock music by asking who their favourite ‘rock’ artist is. This would have narrowed down my search into finding bands to include in my interviews and articles.

‘What 3 colours do you associate with rock music?’

Question 12

I am happy with the results I have got from the question ‘What 3 colours do you associate with rock music?’ as there is an obvious strong set of data that I can work with. Red, black and grey seem to be the most popular colours picked, with white and yellow being closely followed. These colours were incorporated within the magazines that I researched o the data I have received seems to be reliable

Because I gave my questionnaire to people of my target audience (male and female aged 16-25) the answers I have received, reflect those of my target audience so I can use this data in the planning for my magazines colour scheme.

‘What do you think is the most important feature of a rock magazine?’

Question 13

I set this question out as a multiple choice question as I felt that the 5 options I gave were the main features that I think should be included in a rock magazine. I wanted to know out of these 5 which people of my target audience felt was the most important as then I can focus on that particular feature when I come to producing my magazine.

The main image seems to be the clear winner of the 5 option given which tells me that I need to have a strong set of images when I come to doing my photoshoot. I will need clear images for my contents page, double page spread and my front cover. I will need to ensure that I have a suitable main image that is of the right size and at an appropriate image. The colour scheme is something I will also need to focus on as this is something that my audience also chose as one of the most important features.

‘Where do you usually buy your music magazines?’

Question 14

This was given as a multiple choice question as I didn’t want any answers that included specific store names. By having options like Supermarket and Newsagents, it generalises an answer that the audience needs to give and it makes it easier for them to answer.

The supermarket seems to be the most popular place that magazines are sold to my target audience which tells me that I may not necessarily have to include subscription information into my magazine as nobody from my target audience chose this as an option; it is not a key regular content that I would need to include.

Page 16: Questionnaire analysis

‘Do you keep up with any bands/artists through the use of social media?’

Question 15

I chose to use this question because the use of social media has become more apparent over the years, especially with people from my target audience age and gender. It was also incorporated within some of the magazines that I had researched; things like facebook and twitter links were used throughout the magazines.

The data given is useful for planning the content in my magazine as I now know that I can include social media links or use references about social media within my rock magazine.
