What magazine would you prefer to read ?

VibeKerrangNMEBlenderRolling Stone

The results show that about 33 % read NME, 44 % Rolling Stones. This highlights the popularity of the two magazines, famous and known as “cool” for young people’s point of view. It seems that being a multiplatform magazine industry as NME to reach the widest audience possible or to choose a well-known name for your magazine works on the consumers and make them want to buy it.

With this charts, I can understand what people expect of a music magazine and thus, what I need to have in my coursework in order to interest my audience. Posters and interviews own the highest results, therefore for consumers they have to be present and with a consequent place in a music magazine as they want to follow the latest news of their favorite bands and have posters of them to be aware of their appearance and can identify with them.

How much do you spend on a music magazine ?

Less than £1.00£1.00-£2.00£3.00-£4.00£5.00 or more

I am quite surprised that 50 % of students spend between £3and £4 pounds for a music magazine. I think these results show that you can have a high price for your magazine, but it has to be already established, famous and popular. You need to satisfy all your consumers’ needs. A new magazine cannot dare to present such a price.

FIND YOUR TRIBE

Trendie is a target audience that I was categorized under in the « Find your tribe » questionnaire. Targeting this type of category would be easier for me as it is the category which many of my friends and I belong. Moreover, as it says above, Trendie like be aware of the new bands and news before anyone else and I would like to accentuate these areas in my magazine.

Page 14: Questionnaire

I think targeting Indie kid is perfect for the magazine theme and genre that I would like to create. Indeed, Indie kid are immersed in the music world, they like participating at gigs, commenting the last hot album, being involved thourghout social network websites… They love music and they want to live it. That’s why, in order to target this category, I think a music magazine needs to have the latest news, reviews and music events, including gigs pictures and opportunities for prosumers to participate in their favorite magazine.

Finally, Indie Scenester’s category is when Indie kids’ meets Trendie. Fashion, and really careful about their look, they embody the music throughout their amazing knowledge of newest bands and future rock icons. A music magazine, in order to attract them, must be a frontrunner, showing the newest articles, bands and insisting on its exclusivity. The design also has to be young, fashion and cool.
