WHAT IS A BRAND? A brand can be a Name, term, design, symbol, that can features the

identities of one seller's good or service as distinct from those of other sellers. A brand can take many forms which include a name, sign, colour combination, symbol or slogan.   A brand is the identity of a business or a product, this allows customers to become familiar with its trade mark and develops a personal bond with the customer.  This avoids confusion in the media and therefore brands have become so popular with their personalised image that is links with all their advertisement into one such as adverts on the television, posters, albums, and many more.

For example, Coca Cola is the name of a brand make by a particular company. The word branding began simply as a way to tell one person's cattle from another by means of a hot iron stamp. The word brand has continued to evolve to encompass identity; it affects the personality of a product, company or service. It is defined by a perception, good or bad, that your customers or prospects have about you.

WHAT IS A BRAND? This the Coco Cola advert and this advert is perfect for a brand image example and how they sell their product to their target audience.

://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bg_zxsxyKyMIn this advert, we that Coco Cola is trying to sell their product to a

particular audience and that is a young people. Also we that they see most of Coco Cola adverts are filmed in summer time because that is when sales should be at its highest due to the hot weather. We see in the advert youths in swim wear  having lots of fun at the beach. What the drink is trying to sell alongside it , is that it is a fun youthful drink to have at summer time. Coco Cola use close up shots on to the Coco Cola bottle to push their message and establish their brand image to sell their product.

WHAT IS A BRAND?

For the music industry, branding is essential if they want to sell their artist’s records, but first they need to create a brand image for that artist to that artist becomes more appealing to their primary target audience. I have used Tinie Tempah as an example because he is a Grime music artist and that was our brand image we were inspiring to be. Tinie Tempah has become very famous in Britain over the last two years because his branding has made his trade mark. His trade mark is the Buddy Holly styled glasses from his own style of font that represents his brand image. Tinie Tempah's album cover shows a futuristic or a space theme to it, by involving a shone of light upon Tinie as if the shone of light was a spaceship. Grime artists like to play upon words by going beyond the English grammar and embracing their brand image; in this cover we see that the album name is spelt DISC-OVERY instead of discovery because the artist wants their unique style be different from other artists. Grime artists are trying to be different from R&B artists and making their unique brand image of being different from other artists in the charts. The colour scheme is dark colours such as black, dark purples, to represent his brand image as a slick and cool artist.

Page 5: Question two

WHAT IS OUR BRAND IMAGE?In our music video, it is displaying a Grime and

British Hip Hop genre because the music is new and urban and it is in the charts.

Mise-en-scene The clothing they wear is dark because like

other male R&B artists they wear dark clothing such as leather jackers, expensive branded clothing. For our music video we dressed our artist in dark polo tops and jeans to look the brand image we were created him into. The colour scheme is mainly black, white and grey but Grime artists have more of unique style by dressing more urban and stylish. For our unique style we used the colour pink because it suited the song of the video and it shows a feminine side to our brand image. The artist haircut are a clean cut and they look well groomed just like Professor Green.

Page 6: Question two

WHAT IS YOUR BRAND IMAGE?Here are some music videos we inspired our brand image to

become. We analysed them carefully to find out the key points that would work well for our brand image. Since we researched a Grime music genre we had to look into what appeals for our target audience.

WHAT IS YOUR BRAND IMAGE?For our music video we used the studio to film all of

our footage because most Grime artists do that since it is a cheap and easier way to film. In my film I used an vignette effect for my video to spotlight my artist which Professor Green has done with his lighting in his music video. I have used this vignette effect in my ancillary tasks because it carrys the link between the music video into the print work. This can also be called a brand when carrying forward key points from your music video into your ancillary projects.

Page 8: Question two

WHAT IS YOUR BRAND IMAGE?Grime artists like dark settings which make the artist

look slick and cool and thats what we wanted in our brand image for our artist. In the video I involved the colour pink into and that colour should be presented into its album covers and other print work, so it fits its own brand image. I wanted to use pink however I did not want to use the bright neon pink in this This editing fitted the album cover well because its not in your face when you see the album cover, it looks cool and relaxed. In our photo we got Morgan to look straight into the camera and this indicates eye contact between his audience and himself which gives that connection between them. We took a close up shot of him because in our research of album covers, long distance shots makes the artist distant from its audience like Dizzee Rascal. This shot makes him look confident and relaxed at the same time because you can see his body language and facial expressions which hopefully this should of applied to our Grime genre and its brand image. For our font we used big bold american football style letters because if we dont want the album to be 'too in your face' then the name of the artist should grab your attention instead.

Page 9: Question two

WHAT IS YOUR BRAND IMAGE?

I used the same font from my album cover because as a brand image, you usually intend to use the same font as part of your trade mark for the artist; for example like Tinie Tempah. I used the heart from my music video to create the trade mark and keep the brand image through the print work. It gives the artist more of softer tone in the Grime music genre; because not all Grime artists follow  the rules, they intend to look different from their competition in the same music genre and this is what I have done with my artist by making look like he has a feminine side and at the same time a very cool slick character, which he presents that in his music video. From the album cover I still used the pink stripes and presented them for the back ground which still keeps the brand image for my artist. In this print work, I had to make it look different from its album cover by not making it look the same and also it has to grab the audiences attention because this is the advertisement poster for the music video. This is the heart we used in our music

video and our ancillary projects; this is part of our brand image.

Page 10: Question two

WHAT IS YOUR BRAND IMAGE?

From the music video I included the brick background  into my print work so theme is still carrying on from the music video. Also I included the heart as the background but faded so you are able to read the lyrics and also to fit the brand image. I made the background and the artist to have this washed out effect so the lyric are more clear to read and so it stands out better. I used a medium shot for my artist because this photo shows that he's confident and expresses his body language to his audience to fit the brand image of a confident Grime artist.

PUSHING THE BOUNDARIES

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uhRdQDvy_yo

This is our music video. We have followed the Frasers and Goodwins

theory by have linking the visual and lyrics. Since the song is called Kickstarts we use someone kicking balloons when he sings those lyrics ‘And love kickstarts again’ We have followed the general conventions of a music video by thinking about the Mise-en-scene of the music video and the Cinematography. We used the pulsing heart to maintain the love factor in this music video as the song is talking about love and desire. We used a couple (boy and girl) to show the affectionate side and try and maintain some sort of narrative in the video. We used them as an example for a relationship in our video to show to our audience. It was also to show the boy was not displaying a extremely confident guy like most Grime artists but sweet and affectionate person instead.
