QUESTION SEVEN- LOOKING BACK ON THE PRELIMINARY TASK, WHAT

HAVE YOU LEARNT IN THE PROGRESSION FROM THAT TO A FINAL

PRODUCT?

George Mugglestone

The preliminary task was something completely new

to all involved and I was immensely proud of the

final product. We worked as a group to develop a

short piece, filming it and editing it to finally create

what you see here.

We were able to acquire several elements of knowledge within this

task that we eventually brought with us when creating our film

opening. These included simple aspects such as how to use a camera,

as well as more technical elements, including; camera work, editing,

sound and mise-en-scéne. The most difficult, in my opinion was

continuity as we had to make sure it all was correct, I know we had to

re-film parts of our Preliminary Task due to this. Another aspect I felt

was tricky was using Premiere Pro as this was a piece of editing

software I had never used before and therefore needed to understand

how it all worked.

The Preliminary Task was unlike anything I had ever undertaken before and was

therefore something fun to complete. I was extremely happy with the outcome. I know

it wasn’t the next Hollywood Blockbuster but for what had been asked of us, I was

thoroughly impressed with the efforts myself and group showcased. Of course there

are differences with our Preliminary Task and final Film Opening. These include

elements such as the camera quality in some shots, Perhaps due to us not focusing it

correctly due to our inexperience and also, the location- we only filmed in school as

that was what was asked of us. After all, we didn’t need many other locations due to

the introductory nature of the project.

The overall quality of the film opening was better as I feel we were more matured with

our knowledge of filming and editing, thus, allowing us to create a higher-standard of

work.

The Preliminary Task gave us solid foundations to create our Film

Opening coursework. It enabled us to learn new skills to create

our coursework to the best of our ability, and in my opinion, I feel

there is a definite contrast between the two projects. The

extensive amount of hardwork I put into creating a high-quality

Film Opening finally paid off once I had watched the finished

product. I had been focused on this for months and I felt

extremely proud of what I had achieved and definitely look

forward to any other ventures similar to this one.
